Hi WTG, Solidarity ..you and me both. smile

I just give campsite names if I think it would help questioners.  If they then can't be bothered to look them up because I haven't given them a live link then that's too bad,  and I don't lose sleep.

    Have a good day.

What I find odd is that if I accidentally close a linked page and end up losing the site, I blame myself for my own mistake.

However, the idea being put forward here is that it’s the fault of the poster of the link rather than the end user.

I disagree with that rationale and believe it’s down to each of us users to ensure we don’t make a mess of things. It’s easily done in this scenario by using the back button.

I agree TW although it no doubt helps those who forget and shut it all down so I will try to remember. wink

The fault is that of the site, in that YES is not the default position.

However, as I mentioned earlier using the back button does not always work on this site if you have clicked on items within the link. So it would be more accurate to put, can sometimes be undone by using the back button.

The thing is Steve if you start clicking on items on the linked site it's up to you to remember you've done this and back your way out of it. If it helps to alter the default link just in case people forget what they've done I'm willing to try and remember too. But I can't promise anything. laughing

I appreciate that brue brue and I think it is all DK was asking of everyone.

"It would be appreciated if people could take a few more seconds to use this facility."

A little over the top WTG. For what was a very reasonable request from DK. He spends a lot of time on here both as a poster and moderator.

If it makes his life a little easier, then why not.

Maybe someone could help with a couple of shots of the LINK screen as it might help others to add links in the future.

So this whole thing is for the benefit of DK, is it, Steve? Pardon me but I think he’s well able to sort himself out.

I’m with WTG on this in that we do what we can but ultimately it’s down to the end user. Almost a state of caveat emptor.

For the benefit of many, including me. The reason why I do it

I tend to use a Link by highlighting text, but if I was doing it purely with the web address, I would copy this and paste it into the URL box. This then auto copies into the text to display box.

I would then click on the little down triangle alongside No to open it up and display Yes. Click on Yes and then Click on OK. The dialog box then disappears and You should have a link that opens in a new window

Edit I have added a second photo which shows it more clearly.

WTG I don't know which LINK sparked off the request from DK (it could have been mine?) but this has been suggested before and for myself I haven't taken this on board, mainly because I forget and go to default.

LINKS sometimes fail for all sorts of reasons because of user error. At least you have been able to provide LINKs and I think that's good.

I'd carry on with your style of links TG which I've been using too. It's not a major issue. I wonder why the yes/no box doesn't work? Maybe someone can help?

Same as I do, I sometimes change the link to my own worded text if the link is very long, but sometimes not. I also believe the default should be 'Yes', not much to implement I would think.

I do have a preference for all links to open in new tabs on my desktop, but my tablet running Android will open a new tab whichever way a poster links.

Just go with the flow, relax and carry on posting links whatever suits your way of posting, if a link is provided then I'm sure it's appreciated by others for that extra mile smile.

And it means you can carry on reading/following/replying on CT while the linked website is on another tab/page (to be read/saved later).

As a habit I (usually) open links on web  pages by right clicking.
