Isle of Wight
Has anybody been to the Isle of Wight? Ive been told there are deals that some companies do with car/caravans and site but I can not find any deals. Also does anyone know if travelling with a cat does it need to have any certain injections or checks before he goes?

We've done IoW twice in the motorhome with a dog. No special requirements for pets. We booked club site at Southlands, phoned the booking line I seem to recall, they got ferry bookings with a discount.
Lots to see on the island. Allegedly the most expensive water to cross 😯

Look at Red Funnel they do deals which include some of the sites, the club also do a deal that includes the ferry and Southland club site also there are no restrictions on pet travel, try to travel "off peak" as there can be big diferences in costs

There doesn't appear to be an online offer for a ferry deal from the club at present, there usually is, so I would ring the booking dept to ask and also check out other sites for offers.
Sorry our posts crossed Jo121, Southlands is a nice site, a bit inland, I see they have mid week discounts.

Red Funnel offer inclusive ferry and site breaks. Otherwise, book a ferry of your choice and site of your choice separately or, as Brue suggests, ring the club for a deal.
IoW is part of the UK and no restrictions apply but your cat will be best left in the car on the ferry. (Some provision exists for dogs.) Crossings take about 40 mins.

Southlands has a lot of level grass pitches. They outnumber the HS. The site is up to the club's usual standard and will be my choice if we visit again.

We have used Southland site for years ( even before the club purchased it)as we go over most years to visit my Brother,it is much bigger now with all the hardstands but we always use the grass pitches as they are mostly much closer to the facilities block, and can recommend the Fighting Cocks pub for good quality reasonable priced meals (compared to some)

Sorry, I posted the wrong Red Funnel link above. This is the one -

I would also suggest an overnight or more stop nearer the ports before going over ,as it is a long tiring journey from where you are , especially once you hit the M25 and your point of dep be it Portsmouth to Fishbourne ,Southampton to Cowes or Lymington to Yarmouth the three routes

We liked Southlands. Good walk out the back of the site for dogs and humans, virtually traffic free. Tour buses did stop outside the site and a walk to regular bus service, but unpavemented.
Both our deals were from Southampton large Waitrose as you come off the ferry for supplies.
I too would opt for night nearby before ferry and we're only in Essex.

That would be Wight Link ferries , its 96 miles from Commons Wood site ,about 2miles off A1, then,Via M25 and then A3 from junc 10,and if you stay at this site (our local) it is 30mins to Kings Cross with plenty of buses (just a short distance outside the site), serving either Welwyn Garden City or Hatfield stations each about two miles from the site
Ps at the moment, there is work on site redoing the toilets and showers, will be completed mid march? so non facility site till then (cheaper than published prices?

We. Took our caravan to the IOW last summer and stayed at Southlands it was a great site we really enjoyed it we took a pitch in the hardstanding area which is the newer part of the site but the whole site was nice and well laid out. Just a 10 min walk from the site is The Pointers Inn which was a lovely pub with a nice beer garden. Also as has bee n mentioned The Fightin Cocks Inn nearby does excellent food we went there for dinner a few times while on the island. We went from Portsmouth to Fishbourne with Whytlink and found the cost reasonable we booked through the club.

We have been twice in recent years and stayed at Southlands in 2013 and Waverley Park at East Cowes last year. Both are good sites although we felt that Waverley Park was marginally more convenient with a larger motorhome which won't apply to someone with a caravan as you have the car for getting about. Both times we travelled on Red Funnel. As a guide to price Waverley Park (2019 prices) charge £150 in peak for a unit up to 13 metres long. Either side of peak it was £122 for the same outfit. I imagine the Club would be at least as good. Although I have never used the Wight Link crossings they always seem to be more expensive than Red Funnel, again booking through the Club will get a better deal.

I'm surprised at that you say the Southlands site is expensive, Chrystal. I've just looked at the cost of Southland for 7 nights in early April and not only does the mid-week pitch fee 50% discount apply to mid week but also for the weekends as well. £3 odd (can't remember the exact figure) pitch fee per night can't be bad in anybody's book, especially at weekends.
I've only been active on the discussions forum for a couple of weeks or so and I've probably done more than my fair share of 'bellyaching' about the club and its pricing policy, but I'll give credit where it's due. Well done CC, let's see more of the MWD extended to weekends and who knows......
.......I might be sufficiently impressed to start referring to the Club as CAMC, but don't hold your breath on that point!

I think it’s the ferry fare that's expensive, rather than Southlands, and that’s what pushes the total holiday cost up.
Cheaper packages are available but you pays your money……
A few years ago the pitch fee at Southlands was reduced to £1 or £2 and it’s remained reasonable ever since - presumably to attract custom.

TW, yes I've just re-read Chrystal's message and I see what you mean.
I've obviously miss-interpreted the "Southlands site, very nice but overall expensive" part of the posting.

It’s a tad ambiguous, BVM.

No problem Chrystal, I just hope your surname isn't Clear!
Presumably the ferry was £100 return. Was that for a m/h or car and van and at what time of the year?
