Carrying spare car/caravan road light bulbs

In some countries you are required to carry spare bulbs for your car/caravan to replace any that fail. However both my car and caravan use only led lights which appear to be a bespoke design. Any advice appreciated on their necessity in Spain and Portugal.

Check the Club’s website for information on what is required for each country. France used to require it but doesn’t nowadays.

Assuming that said bulbs are capable of self-fit, it should be possible, I would imagine, to get a spare bulb set from a main dealer for the relevant make.

It might be prudent to carry a generic spare bulb kit just to satisfy those rare occasions when the police might show an interest. It might be easier than trying to explain that your car has different lights! I have carried a set for years and on the odd occasion had to make use of them. I discovered quite by accident that I had a bulb failure system on my motorhome when one of my brake lights went!

    What a timely post

My spare bulbs have been packed in a box since around 2000 when I first went to France. I have always kept them in the spare wheel housing out of the way. All are old bayonet type some may be of use on the van but not on  the car.

As David says I will just keep them in the boot to show if stopped

    HI

I actually ;laughed out loud at his post, sorry.

We live in Spain and you would be very lucky to find any car with all lights working apart from mine and all the other Brits who live here, went to change a bulb in the front off-side at the local Hyundai garage and first thing he asked was when the IVA was due and when i said two and a bit years he said well we'll leave it till then. So i did it myself like a good immigrant.

Even if you have a car with normal incandescent bulbs, it's often virtually impossible to change them at the road side as you need tools to remove trim/bumpers/etc to get access.

Further to Hitchglitch 's post I couldn't find anything on the CMHC site hence my enquiry here however I have since had confirmation from the RAC that you are no longer required to care spare bulbs in Spain.
