We are in our 80s, and this year have had to pay £644 for Motoring and Personal cover for 45 nights in France.  We have decided, after this year, not to visit the EU if this kind of charge has to be paid.  It is not so much that we cannot afford to find the cash, but more of a sensible attitude that alternatives can be found that offer much better value for money.  By disposing of the caravan and saving all the expense associated with it, including the reduced mpg when towing, and dropping out of the CAMC, a few years of off-peak stays at holiday cottages and the like could be had. It would mean being confined to the UK, but there are plenty of excellent locations around, and some of them new to us after the shackles of need for caravan access have been shed.

Good luck, LT. If the EHIC stays in place there are plenty of decent Gites and Villas to enjoy your favourite places broad.

It is a shame if it actually comes to that when you are fit enough to travel but become priced out because of a sudden change of policy by an insurance provider. Whether its worth carrying on very much depends whether you get the same amount of enjoyment touring the UK, if not I can understand the point you make. I suppose all of us will come to the same decision in time, sad as it is?

We had Motorhome insurance through the club, unfortunately a van drove into us and did not stop. Damage was a new drivers mirror a new bedroom window and scuffs down the dude if the Motorhome. The work from start to finish was over 3 months. Our renewal premium went up by £200. We was not prepared to pay it. We shopped around on line and this year we are paying £40 pound more than last year even with the incident which I feel is good. Please shop around spend a few hrs you can save a lot of money ..never insure with the same company unless they give you a good deal if not walk away

We were also quoted £650 up from £245 last year, for ages 83 & 85 Saga wanted £1060 for 56 days for personal cover only. Whether Brexit is the excuse or not Who knows. Just going through banks insurance.Had some great quotes for car insurance from £1450 from Volvo to Axa which I’ve changed to for £630

Sacked off now inflexible & vastly dearer RP and gone over to the dark side with CCC as much much cheaper and more flexible. Check terms and durations though.

We always check and compare all Insurances after annual rip off renew quote(s). Mystery reductions when challenged.

Never used SAGA as always much dearer. SAGA is just another albeit niche clever marketing Company that has nothing to do with helping out retirees to save money. Mother in law was fleeced for years by them but wouldn't hear a bad word said.

Quote - This year standard cover for us - now 83 and 81 respectively - has increased to £640, with absolutely no change in our circumstances.

I've taken out Red Pennant every year since 1987.   For the past eight years I've been travelling on my own to Spain and staying for 122 days.   I've taken out the Personal & Motoring policy extended to 122 days..   Each year, just for myself, the premium has been less than £300 with an increase each year of around 5 to 10 pounds.   Imagine my disbelief when last November I was asked for £750 for the same cover..

The Club may well have changed underwriters but surely the previous underwriters weren't selling insurance to us elderly members at a loss to themselves.     If the Club truly looks after the interests of their members, isn't it time they moved Red Pennant insurance back to the previous underwriters?

I don't know if any older members are actually buying Red Pennant now the price has sky rocketed but I would have thought that if they are the Club/Brokers will be encouraged to lower the age at which which these increased charges start, perhaps to 70? Also there is a risk that older members might risk taking out a lower level of cover from elsewhere in order to save some money?

Perhaps a club champion, you know the ones introduced with a fanfare can come on here and explain this discrimination.

Would someone please report my post

My Flex Plus Anniversary letter has arrived this week and, as one person is now over 70, I need to purchase an 'age extension'.

This costs £65 and is for the policy so covers both of us.

The Camping Club won’t cover over 80’s more than 31 days I thought there was too many of us in the country

I am absolutely appalled at the way the CAMC is treating us over 80's, this year.  I have been a member for 41 years and have used Red Pennant almost every year with no claims.  Last year I was 83 and the cost for 23 days for my wife and I plus car and caravan was £148, this year CAMC want £380 which is exhorbitant, how can they justify this.

I would be very interested to hear how other over 80 CAMC members are dealing with this.
