Deposits

We can remember paying a deposit. It was something like £5 per booking. I think it was that long ago we used to send a cheque! It was taken off your total payment on arrival.

But 46 with t'other club and a couple of years not belonging to any club prior to that.
Care to explain your point?😋

Deposits seemed pointless to me when they operated. I rarely paid one. Most of my bookings at the time were made mid week. I often would be told not to bother anyway as by the time they were posted and delivered I would be there anyway.
I toured for over 7 weeks including the main school holidays in 1994 and booked 3 sites for Fridays and Saturdays. We used about 16 sites. I booked the first site because I needed to be able to leave the caravan and travel to work for the day. The same for the third site. I also booked one affected by the August bank holiday. All the other sites I phoned ahead the day before. The bookings were made a couple of weeks before the start of our tour

I remember the old deposit system. Initially it was £5 a booking which later went up to £10 a booking. I don't quite remember when they stopped but it would have been in the early 2000's. There was a change in the booking system which complicated matters.( probably the introduction of online booking) I remember discussing this with the warden at Hawes in 2004. Apparently whilst the deposit was taken at East Grinstead for some reason the system had difficulty deducting the deposit at point of arrival because two systems were employed which didn't talk to each other. So it seems deposits were conveniently dropped at this point!!!

DK that is how I remember it as well but even £10 was never a deterent to not turning up. Any reintroduction of deposits will have to be at least £25. A percentage of the holiday fee would be more sensible with a minimum deposit. I don't remember when deposits were abandoned but like you think it was the early 2000. I do remember 2003 was the year electricity was included in the pitch fee.

The Resale of Electricity and Gas rules came into being on 1st January 2003. I suppose knowing this was going to happen the Club may have changed their pricing a year or two ahead of this?

We lost touch with Club Sites around early 2000’s, mainly because we had found a little CL we loved right next to a no frills Club Site. We used to pay a deposit for CL, it was a very popular one time we needed, but we were happy with this. We used adjacent Club Site occasionally if we extended and went beyond 28 days, but never booked ahead, just popped in.

The Club made the change for the 2003 season David after lodging complaints with Ofgen about the latest rules. I know this because I still have the letters in response to my written complaints to the Club in March 2003 about the changes.

My memory is getting a bit faded now but I remember that not all pitches had the option of electrics and gradually this changed to a point where it was available to virtually all pitches. I must have paid for electrics separately but for the life of me I can't remember how much a night it was or when it became included in the pitch price.

My memory is not so good either but I do keep some records. Prior to 2003 you had the choice as to whether you paid for electricty or not on any pitch of your choosing. e.g. at Baltic Wharf the prices were:
Pitch Adult Child Electric
2002 £3.00 £4.75 £1.20 £1.50
2003 £5.50 £5.00 £1.70 £0.00Price for electric in 2002 was £1.50 at all sites.

interesting so a deposit was about one third of the night's fee?

It used to be £5 deposits but it was not a deterent as it did not in those days stop some booking several sites on the day on a long journey and not cancel those that were not used, but the new system has stopped multiple bookings on the same day (apart from a glitch in the system that sometimes throws up two bookings on the same day with different booking numbers)

It was included in the pitch fees when it was made unlawful to charge more for electricity than the price paid to the utility company,so it was all included in the pitch fee which also covers repair and annual serviceing of the sites bollards and electricity supply,it was about 2003?

There have been a couple of threads re pricing, which had run their course, closed recently. Both with similar statements from Rowena. One of which is copied below:-
With regards to the OP we would like to advise that in addition to enabling members to book more easily all year round, the Club is also making further improvements during 2019, taking into account member feedback we have received about increasing availability for members, making the online booking process simpler and faster, and offering members more deals and discounts. We will give you the details as and when they are available and I will be posting here on Club Together.
I will now close this discussion as it's got heated at times and I hope we have addressed your concerns.
In relation to the Last paragraph Rowena I don't think the concerns have been addressed as deposits have neither been confirmed or denied.

A big +1 one to that last paragraph, Ro obviously knows that further improvements are being considered. If deposits are not at all being considered in this further improvements then in which case it would have been easy to say that?
As they have not been confirmed or denied I assume they are?

Really like the early booking discount, but I'm reliably (?) informed many times over that booking over there isn't necessary (until you get caught out that is)

Simple no or yes would have been better on deposit 's instead of a load of political waffle, free beer tomorrow lads.

well a few tales recently about over there sites being full on arrival , and and I was repsonding to EasyT who said that booking on foreign sites on the website might be one of the furture developments, so a reasoned responce.

no I don't agree at all, but keep trying for that mod spot
