Time To Dump Certain Members?
CT should be a place for like-minded hobbyists to get together and share their experiences/knowledge in a friendly and fun environment, yes? Why then is it that we have to put up with the ‘usual suspects’ derailing threads/topics in a desperate bid to prove a point? Why are the mods not giving these offenders a ‘rest’? They are not only spoiling it for the majority of us, they are also a thorn in the side of the CAMC, imo.
This will almost certainly be taken down, but it needs saying.

Oh dear, Freddy.
Criticising moderation, criticising fellow members, name calling……

The majority how can that be?, as very few post on CT and those that do seem to keep it going and can and do give very valuable advise to those who ask, and some even listen and come back with what the outcome was
Ps your OP is quite close to being in breach of CT guidelines

yes who shall be chosen and who shall choose?

"Quite close" - in my opinion it is in breach on about 3 counts!

But that’s debate! Even those in Parliament are full of holes. It’s really not on to criticise others' debating abilities, Freddy.

The bit about like minded hobbyists sharing knowledge and experience? It’s a statement and doesn’t need addressing.
It’s also exactly what happens so why do you think it should be addressed? Have you not read the rest of the forum?
Freddy, please let me share a little knowledge and experience of this forum with you and I say this with the best of intentions. I suggest you leave it be and address your concerns to the CM as has been recommended.

well in a discussion that is probably the easier thing to say...
however proving it is far harder, could you say why they are full of holes?

Have a look at the technical threads that are here, look at the help given with any problem, or a possible route, or even which pub to use. Often with a few minutes of posting a thread answers are given. Even those who like to debate things in 'heated' manner will come together to help out anyone.

I have to agree with one point raised in this thread, any actions that are taken seem to me quite random and disjointed ?

you mean the contents removed?

I don’t really understand what it is that the OP is complaining about .The only thing that I find hard to accept is the people that come on here running the C&MC down constantly ,that really is annoying and certainly not helping the cause .Yes I think we all know now that it is time that the club pulled its finger out and sorted out the forum but other than that I think it’s fine .Not a bad bunch on here and lots of knowledge.
There is always going to be one or two people who come on the forum purposely to annoy others but that is part and parcel of a public forum ,I just ignore it.

Or left in place when they should be removed. Reporting seems to be a waste of time as well. I'm not having a pop at anyone just sharing my view and opinion.

In the last year you have received help on CT on 5 threads you have started. So it certainly seems to have worked to your benifit.
Even threads that get derailed, as you put it, have generally been answered long before.
If you have any issues with various posters comments the correct approach is the report button, or to contact the CM.

Some people, and Freddy might be one of them, are taking things a bit too seriously I think.....
I am on half a dozen or so forums reflecting various interests & vehicles I own and CT is by far the livliest and most entertaining. Whilst I log in to them all daily, some have few new posts, and some are quite dry. CT is often funny, usually useful and full of banter and with loads of new posts everyday. Yes, sometimes the "banter" can be a bit cutting, but my observation is that those that receive the stronger banter are well able to retort with equally cutting banter.
My first job was an apprenticeship on Merseyside, the banter was ruthless there, CT is a pussycat in comparison, but we were all best mates in reality. As I suspect anybody on here would be if they actually met a fellow CT'er in the real world on a site.
I would chill out a bit Freddy and accept it for what it is, a lively, sociable chat forum with some good humour and some (sometimes strong) banter thrown in. There are other, drier, forums if you just want pure technical advice....

In my opinion the beauty of our hobby is that it is shared by not 'like' but 'similarly' minded folk with a wide range of differing recreational units and setups. We also have differing likes, needs, experiences, requirements and preferences. The one thing though that we really do have in common is that we have personal opinions, opinions which have been moulded by the above. The problems start when we do not recognise individuality or we try to foist our opinions on others, or we assume some sort of superiority in those opinions.
I know I've asked this before, but am I one of the 'usual suspects'? Sometimes I think this phrase is just used as a dysphemism for those who 'care' to disagree.Come on Club Together, afterall, we are in it together!

It is whispered in dark & dusty corners(& the Australian parliament) that you are one of the founding fathers of the ‘usual suspects’ Micky boy😗😊. Infamy, infamy etc

I had decided not to engage in this sour thread DD but having seen your question it would be impolite not to respond.
If I discuss it is to give my view, my opinion rather than to debate facts and reports etc. Debating, to me, conjures up an image of people who indulge in 'point scoring' as an end to itself often using selective 'evidence' to try and prove their case. I do provide factual evidence when I think it of interest such as the recommended separation distances for fire prevention in Europe generally which is far lower than used by CC. The absolute minimum separation between accommodation units in European guidelines is 3m whereas on CC sites it is 6m.

Hi
To the OP, this is one of the liveliest and I might add informative forums out there at present. Those "usual suspects" you mention, are more than happy to give advice and opinion on all manner of subjects. You might like to accept that the banter side of things is just part of it, try and join in, or even start a banter thread of your own maybe. Your opinion is these people should be removed, my opinion is we need more like them. I sometimes wish I could join in as a member and not staff, it could get proper lively!!

Good post T115.
Like you, I was an apprentice in the mid 70's and the workshop banter was merciless. I then spent the rest of my working life in the same industry and environment. I also use other forums and the classic car one I was on (I own a 45 year old Triumph) had the same thing happen, members moaning about other members and the banter between them. the end result was a lot of the knowledge and skill freely available from people who worked for Triumph back in the day and time served mechanics/technicians like myself on there was lost as the members who contributed it left, I did the same last year. I look in on it now and again and its a shadow of its former self and full of poor advice and misinformation. Those that left, myself included are all still in touch, almost on a daily basis through a WhatsApp group we set up, 9 people currently and are all great mates and meet up for a beer & curry once a year.
I think the message I'm trying to get across here to the OP is be careful what you wish for as it may not achieve what you thought it would.
