Don't know about Android brue, but all using export on my iphone does is bring up various options, none of which relate to resizing.

To achieve that it is necessary to amend the settings so an appropriate App appears in export. Also of couse if you don't already have one, this would need to be downloaded.

In my case that is the image size app. This can also be used independently of course. However, it's a bit quicker if you tell it to appear on the export options screen.

The picture above is from my pad on iOS 10 but it is the same on the phone on the latest operating system iOS 12.

On Android go to the three vertical dots on photos which brings up a short list including export. Export should then bring up size/mb, reduce the 0 x 0 size to 500, press done and use this for CT. I am surprised that Apple haven't got a similar set up, is it under "more" ...?

On pc just now will do a test via Android next.

Test. Montacute House resized to 500, android. It has lost the sharpness when expanded. Recently when no resizing was needed it was perfect when expanded.

Just looked up resizing on ipads, so you can't do this without downloading an app, one of the reasons I like android! I assumed wrongly that ipads were invincible....laughing

No the more is what allows you to add Apps like image size.

However, apart from the fact it does not seem to come with a reduction program built in, once you have downloaded one, it works much the same. Literally taking only a few seconds to resize.

It does depend of course on what you photo started out as, but it does seem to have lost a lot of sharpness. This similar photo taken on my phone at 4.2 MB has been reduced by the App to just under 500kb and still looks reasonably sharp.

I think the ipad wins on clarity and android wins on no apps needed. wink

Your photo was reduced by CT from 1230x922 pix to 350x262 - an odd ratio! That's a further 69% reduction.

I'm still getting: Please ensure all files are under 500kb.  Not sure how to get rid of the horrible grey bands yet.  I'll have to experiment.

After opening in new tab - chasandcath's suggestion of drag & drop. Time consuming but good to know.  It Deleted User OK & stayed here.

I can't see it, just a small blank square. Is it still there if you clear your cache?

Whether I set the resize at 500 or 950 megapixels doesn’t seem to effect the grey side stripes

    Not many of these about!

BTW your photo is 1500x1125 pix: too big for the drag and drop trick. Aim for 500 wide.https://www.caravanclub.co.uk/globalassets/discussions/8ba7b2f1-deb1-41bd-b046-0150736ab30c/

SteveL- Can't remember the last time I saw a red squirrel - probably Brownsea Island some time back,  but I enjoy seeing any wildlife though I don't often get photos

chasncath - thanks for the drag & drop info.  If you see this post just wondering how do you know the size of the photo.

If you see this post just wondering how do you know the size of the photo.

For Windows, right click on the photo and open the "View Image Info"

If you right click and select 'view image' you will see the full-size photo and the dimensions. It's this image, stored on the ct resources file, that you can drag and drop.

Thanks peedee & chasandcath. I was just curious.  Right clicking on a photo on this thread gives me an option of ‘inspect image’  (not view image) which shows lots of what I feel is programming which I don’t understand but managed to work out the small square 'thingy' was the dimensions of the photo.   I can view the size of my own photo on my laptop via properties.  Once again thanks to you both.

I'll have to try the drag and drop method when I get to the laptop.  The trouble is, I tend to use the phone for virtually everything these days.

Just a trial as I think maybe the grey sides have reduced maybe as part of the recent maintenance.

It's probably to do with the height/ width ratio. Judging from JO's pic they seem to have gone for the old 35mm slide ratio rather than the more common 4x3 in the digital era.

Pictures tend to be 16:9 these days, like your telly & laptop screen. 4:3 is a bit old hat. 😉

TW - You are probably right about the width of the photo being posted as I had to reduce mine to 500 pixels wide - some in thread you link to are less than 500 (grey bands at the sides)
