This is the 'concrete' pitch on the site we moved to after the Haven fiasco. I know which I prefer!

That is very much like the new all weather and multi purpose pitches now at Tewksbury site in the "possible" flooding areas

I buy them because if I want to stay at a C&MC site that is in an area I want to visit and its the closest/convenient site then I stay there but I would like to choose if I want all the bells and whistles or not.  Sometimes I do sometimes not but it would be nice to have a choice.  I like to belong to the club as it gets me other things as well as club sites plus access to CL's, ferry travel etc.  I mix and match like this weekend we stayed at a CL on Friday with no EHU, Saturday was Seacroft as we had the GD with us so it suited and Sunday was a pub stopover again no facilities or EHU (and free if you don't count what  we spent in the pubwink).

I got the impression you didn't want to continue the diversion into having a "pop at other providers" but anyway .....we're back down in Cornwall next week so if we walk past those pitches/shower block I'll take current pictures so you can see what they are like now (not publicity/Google pictures). I'll also try to get some quotes for next year's peak season prices (the sky high ones which subsidise those special £6.50 deals!) wink

    Not within the club though!!!

Its rather like asking John Lewis if they stock a certain item and them saying no but Debenhams do why not go there, rather than lose a sale if there is demand they may want to stock it instead and before you say anything yes they would have to gauge demand same as the club has to gauge demand for having glamping pods and different pitch types.  Presumably they are/will look at alternative pitches for MH's with fewer facilities and smaller pitches, after all if you can get 6 MH pitches on the same footprint as 3 normal pitches or even the LNA or Carpark its making more dosh is it not?

Comparing a site (was it France) in mainland Europe with one in the UK is not comparing like with like by any stretch of the imagination.

For several years up until 15 years I often went off at the drop of a hat to Europe with a friend for 4 or 5 days. If we are taking about 'Spontaneity being the key' I doubt that there are a great percentage who spontaneously travel into Europe with a campervan for a weekend break at the drop of a hat and find that cheaper than a CC site.

If you go in to JL for a vacuum cleaner and their cheapest is £100 and you say 'I only want to pay £30' they may well suggest ASDA George.

after all if you can get 6 MH pitches on the same footprint as 3 normal pitches

But you can't! Normal pitch is approx 3m wide to allow for a caravan or motorhome with 6m clearance (which includes room for a car and an awning within the clearances, a pitch just 3m wide for a MH will still be 6m clearance and the instead of using 12m would probably use 9m.

It looks as if the marketing people in another similar industry have done a survey and come up with a similar result - "Small Rocks (or whatever the current cool/hip/dandy word might be)"

Except in the UK at least and the cc for sure no way would they allow the fire break recommedations to be compromised with people sleeping in their LVs,

If you only want to sleep for a few hours, why not?

Those of us used to small vans won’t find it a problem.smile

if all club sites had three or four of these, the same process could be employed there....

Sounds great - except there just physically is not that level of overprovision of pitches in Great Britain. [I think the recent boom in campervan sales has resulted in all the spaces being filled up.]

As to "go to another provider" I am a member of CC (and C&CC as well) so that I know that I will get facilities of a consistent high standard without the need for a prior inspection.  I do not want to be spending each morning of my holiday spontaneously looking at site reviews to find an acceptable level of quality at a substitute site.

.full up, no problem, on to the next club site..

Which at 50 to 60 miles means a couple of hours to find out if there is a space, and even if there is we will not be in the area we spontaniously wanted to be.

I thought that the CL/CS network and the majority of sites "off peak" at this time of year plus "brit stops?" and commercial sites would more than cater for the needs of  "pop ins" for a couple of days in the uk without the need for bookinglaughing

the club's prices are not just confined to a six week summer peak, they (like other providers here) like to wring each last 10p from its customers.

So CC is in line with UK competitors in that regard. Sounds reasonable to me

have to agree fully. The standard of club sites is one of the reasons they are so popular.

From what I see I accept that the use of leisure time/vehicles is changing especially noticeable in England at week-ends.

Providing any new ‘item’ for sale I feel has to be researched and proven on paper at least, in order to be able to estimate profit (if any) to be made from that new ‘item’ without any detriment to the rest of what the seller is offering for sale.

I personally I cannot see the non-facility/short stay type of pitch being a financially viable way forward for the club as it would have to be ‘sold’ at a lower price than the club’s other pitches.

I can offer no further contribution to this thread/discussion so

Good luck to all contributing to this OP  Campervan Infographic

Is there any need to be rude about club officials and fellow members?

Thank you for "indulging" me, BB,  rather patronising, n'est ce pas?  wink

The point I was making, BB, was that your photos are out of date. The pitches and shower block may have looked like that when first opened but they definitely do not now. Like all sites and buildings they are showing signs of wear and tear. As for cost, you were the one who brought that up in the first place - I just tried to point out for anyone not in the know how they can afford to make those offers available.

No, I've no doubt that no conspiracy exists, you were stating what you saw 2 years ago, I was saving what we saw a couple of weeks ago.  I'm sorry if my post upset you - your reply seems a little tetchy - but there we are.
