Spain to scrap some Autopista tolls
"Tolls will be scrapped for a number of highways in Spain, including the AP1 between Burgos and Arminon (from December this year). This will be followed in 2019 by the AP7 between Alicante and Tarragona and the AP4 between Seville and Cadiz so a total of 468 kilometres. The reason for this is the expiry of the 50year concession, which cannot be extended. Other sections may follow, such as the AP2 between Zaragoza and the Mediterranean and parts of the AP7, the concession for which will run out in August 2021."

Hi
Just an update to this excellent news is that the new Socialist Government here in Spain are taking the AP-7 back into state ownership at the end of December 2019 so should be free from 2020 so taking the traffic off the N332/340 coast road.

It really is ridiculous the tolls here, if I want to drive to La Zenia Boulevard shopping centre along the AP7 a distance of six miles it costs at this time of year going through two toll booths 3.80e at each so 7.60euros for that distance. The N332 coast road is at a stand still after 9 in the morning.

Must be a different N332 that I use. Yes, it's busy, but not at a stand still. From San Pedro northwards it's like any busy dual carriageway in the UK, just avoid peak times.
Scottish bridge tolls where abolised years ago, I am fan of M6 Toll tho', worth the money every time.

I've never had a problem on the N332 either although I was mostly on the bit from Orihuela/ San Fulgencio to Alicante.

It certainly is because if you drove from Torrevieja too La Zenia it takes upto 20 minutes just to get on the N332 from Torrevieja and once on can take 30/45 minutes to get too La Zenia Boulevard which should take 10 minutes, from midday it is in both directions. This road is almost un-usable in the months of July/August and we never go beyond Torrevieja at this time in fact only last Friday it took 1hr 10minutes to do six miles, it is not dual at this section..
