We were there 3 years ago and didn't like it at all. Run by Brits, the on-site "baguettes" were a disgrace and it was far too crowded.

Just our opinion of course, and the area is certainly very attractive.

I have visited La Raviore probably about 6 years ago.We went low season under a low season discount offer with the CCC and throughly enjoyed it.It was not run by english, but by a french family.Access was very good unlike the Caravan Club recommended site in the area which is terraced.

Area is very good with access to Annecy available as cycle path is near so you can cycle in.One thing I can remember is the pitches nearest the gate are the larger pitches and further away from the road.

There are some lovely villages to visit along with Chambery. The only downside when we visited was the on site food available was a bit like a cafe.

I can remember sitting around the swimming pool watching the paragliders launch, from the mountains opposite, plus the occasion helicopter to rescue those who didn't launch.

Snooky,  There are two sorts of campsite in the Alps. One of these is La Ravoire, the others isn't - they are about 30 miles apart.  Some people prefer the one sort and some the other.

We stayed at La Colombiere at the end of June and we're going back again in a week's time. Shows how much we like it, although definitely prefer the pitches at the far end (pitches 130 upwards).

Snooky, It 's Campng l'Ecureil at Sallanches - the reviews on Trip Advisor match my own opinion -  but there is no lake, no swimming pool, and no other UK children for yours to play with, so it may not suit you at all.

But there are no tour groups, no static caravans, and no crowding  either.   We all have different wish lists, don't we.

If you are going out of peak season then it won't be necessary to book. There are five sites along the same road all within less than 1 mile. So you can check them all out very easily.

The first is La Ravoire, followed by La Taillifer, which I think may be what Fozzie mentioned as a CMC recommended site. Then La Fontaines, Camping La Ferme opposite and then Camping L'Ideal. All, apart from La Taillifer have swimming pools.
