German Christmas Markets Tour ~ (Weihnachtsmarkt)
Is anyone else planning to travel to Germany this Advent for the Weihnachtsmarkt (Christmas Markets)? We do this most years but seldom see other British motorhomers on the road. We have seen an odd Brit (perhaps I should rephrase that). We have on occasion seen another British motorhome on the stellplatz at Aachen.
When we started we tended to visit a completely new set each year but over time we have got into a pattern which entails revisiting (marked r) some old friends and a few new ones (marked n).
This year we plan to visit the markets at Aachen (r - our favourite medium sized market), Monschau (r), Koln / Cologne (r - done most of the markets but not the “gay” one - yet), Marburg (n - we have previously visited as our daughter went to Uni there but have not “done the market”), Ladenburg (r - our favourite very small market), Weinheim (n), Mannheim (n) and Bernkastel-Kues (r). Our tours always finish in Brugge , not for it’s two markets but for our favourite bar.
Those who have visited Bernkastel at any time of year will know it is “chocolate box pretty”. Last year standing in the falling snow in front of the “advent calendar house” watching that evening's window being opened, with the surrounding stalls, music, lights, smells and happy crowd was wonderful. We have ordered a little snow for this year too.
Is anyone else planning a tour of the markets? If so where are you going?
