Hi,

We have recently had our caravan serviced and damp has been found underneath the caravan. I have added a picture although it isn't brilliant. The caravan is a 2000 year Swift Challenger 530SE. It is immaculate and no damp was found anywhere apart from in the floor. The service place told us that he thought it was due to water pooling from the bottom of the awning rails at the rear as it was a bad design and didn't drain off properly. I find this a bit hard to accept as surely this would have become apparent much earlier in the caravan's life, not after 18 years. This was not mentioned 12 months ago when the caravan was last serviced at the same business (which is an approved service centre by the way). We have been quoted in the region of £700 for the repair but this is just a guesstimate at the minute as it is not known what will be found when they dig deeper.

I was wondering if anyone else had found the same problem and if any solution was found or whether it was something else affecting it. I was wondering whether there could be any water pipes in that location which could be leaking or possibly the toilet? Apparently the other corner is just starting to go but is nowhere near as bad. Surely they would be equally bad if it was a design fault? I don't want to spend a fortune on the van as it is old now but we were hoping we would get a few years out of it. It has been mainly under a caravan cover until spring this year so protected from the worst of the weather.

Any advice gratefully received.
