We are thinking of taking our motorhome to the Loire in October. Does anyone have any good sites they can recommend for this time of year?

It's such a long river and I don't know where you are starting, but you might like to finish at Nantes at the mouth of the river. Camping Nantes is very modern and very well equipped and costs 19 euros with an ACSI card. It has a section specially equipped for motorhomes, free wi-fi , free admission to the city swimming pool alongside, a very respectable restaurant, and a modern tramway at the gate to take you into the city.

As stated, the Loire is extremely long and has varied attractions. It would help to know whether you want to go to Tours/Blois, say, or towards Nantes or East to Orleans. Also what are you interested in - Chateaux, towns or countryside? I like Blois as a town and would be inclined to stay near there.

We came back through Tours two weeks ago and as usual the water levels in the river were very low. I have to say that although the region itself has many attractions the river is not one of them!
