What part of the Rhine are you interested in.  Our preference is for the Moselle

I was thinking somewhere around Freiburg im Breisgau - 30 miles west across the Rhine to visit Colmar and all the Disney designed villages in Alsace, and 30 miles east you are in the heart of the Black Forest.

The most picturesque part of the Rhine is undoubtedly between Koblenz and Mainz. Either side of that it passes through relatively flat (and boring?) countryside in its immediate vicinity, although there are other places a little further away from the river worth seeing, such as Freiburg which was already mentioned, and its hinterland, the Black Forest.

My recommendation would be to use a guidebook to do some research.

You may be able to borrow one from a public library then you could get some ideas of which areas interest you.

Thanks all. Very many years ago went by coach/boat from Kastenianbaum to Rhine Falls and would like to revisit in motorhome.

Great idea Leticia, though those places are both in Switzerland not Germany. You will enjoy it.
