Me again,

‘I have just had a Fiamma ultra 500 fitted to the back of the MOHO.

Do I need to put one of those red and white warning doo dahs on it? I have had a look and all the sites say is it is needed only in Italy and Spain.  Is this right.

Sorry guys, not had anything on the back before 🤪

Certainly its true in Italy for bikes so I imagine it would be the same for a box on a bike rack and it has to be a metal one not plastic.

We've always understood that just Spain and Italy require these boards, as DK says Italy require the metal 7 stripe board while Spain is a 5 Stripe board.

First I have heard of it. I use the same metal board for both countries although Italy does require a metal one. In Spain a card one is quite acceptable.

A great example of over four decades of European harmonisation . . !

If you look at the plastic boards they are only 5 stripes, while the metal one is 7 stripes. Italy require the metal one while Spain I believe will happily accept the 5 stripe plastic or the metal 7 stripe one. I also believe that they have to displayed the correct way round, not upside down as some folk do.

We've never had to display one yet as always had something on tow when been to Spain but always carry the plastic one with us just in case.
