1 weeks holiday in France -suggestions on where to

Hi my wife and I are planning to spend a week in middle - late September in France in our Motorhome.  We spent 3 weeks in France touring from Calais down to the med and working our way back via the west coast.  Even though we covered a number of miles on that trip we realised that we probably only scratched the surface of what the country has to offer.

We only have a week for this trip and I would prefer heading for a specific place aire / campsite, spending 3 days there then heading back. We don’t want to go any further than around 600k from Calais but don’t know which direction to go.

Any suggestions for the trip itinerary would be very much appreciated.

Many thanks!

Courtney

Would you like three days in Paris?

from st malo to the La Grainetiere site at La Flotte on the ile de Ré is 345km and (according to my Drive, set up for my MH size) should take around 4:35 using the tolls.....not many reqd so cheap....

the island should still be warm but quieter than in peak, loads of beaches, restaurants, smart shops in La Flotte and St Martin (both can be walked from the site) and are very pretty, take bikes, take the week to explore slowly, chill and enjoy....

    good luck

But it’s 500k from Calais to St Mali which the OP mentions as starting point! I would consider Normandy and Bayeux area you have plenty of options including landing beaches Mont St Michel and fabulous food and drink options, weather could be an issue but we had superb weather in Sept a few years ago.

    curve ball time

    head for Luxembourg

Normandy is in easy reach and has some lovely places to visit, whatever your interests. It's also quiet especially off season if that's what you want.

How about the municipal at Honfleur? Never stayed there but walked round and it looked good (4 years ago or so).

We went to Ile de Ré for a week in September once and it was glorious. You would need to check what sites are open as many close early September.

If I only had a week I would head to Honfleur.

Years ago we had just a week in late September, we had a caravan at that time.  We went to the Loire and had a week there, and glorious weather.  Chateauneuf-sur-Loire to be precise.  Took the bikes with us and cycled every day.  True, it took a lot of driving in one day there and one day back, as well as a day in the UK,  but we both still think it was one of the best holidays!  We left the Loire on the Saturday at around 9.30 and got to the Hoverport (that's how long ago!) at around 6pm, short hop back to UK, overnight in Kent and home next day.  And back to work on Monday!

Honfleur is a great choice and the MH Aire is very central and even has EHU points available.

Details of the aire are <here>

There is also a very convenient veterinaire clinic a couple of hundred metres from the aire, if you are travelling with a pet.

It is good to see this post.

Frequently people ask others who don't know their interests where they could or should go on holiday, (even though information is available in guide books or on-line and what one person likes may not be appropriate for them) receive suggestions and never respond. It is refreshing to see someone actually thanking contributors.
