First time taking our caravan abroad for the winter in 25 years and will need to get gas in Spain to save on electricity as we're only allowed 4 KW a day then it's extra. We are staying in the alicante area any suggestions of what we need to purchase as I know we won't be able to exchange our light weight propane one in Spain

Many thanks

Buy jumbo adaptor and appropriate pigtail here in uk before you go. When you arrive get  empty Spanish cylinder from unofficial source, or full one from official dealer. Connect up.

I find there are more OP's on this site about gas in Europe than anything else. I know the search engine is a bit U S but have a try and maybe will find answers to your question.

If you live anywhere near Dewsbury or are travelling "up north", Calder Valley Motorhomes claim to sell Repsol gas bottles and the appropriate fittings.

See their website Calder Valley Motorhomes.

    Good luck.  Jim

You need an empty Repsol gas bottle before you go, because you can not buy a full one in Spain unless you have a spanish address. Some sites let you use there address if you buy it through them. The regulator you can buy anywhere in Spain. Have a look on the net for empty bottles for sale,  because we sold ours easy when we stopped going over there.

if you already have a bukhead mounted regulator you do not need another regulator, merely the Jumbo adaptor mentioned above....

these usually fit onto the std 21.8mm LH threaded 'butane' pigtails (as fitted to many continental vans.....ours came with two....)...

however, if you're currently running a UK type POL pigtail (fits a Calor propane cylinder) then the Jumbo adaptor will not fit directly on...

    you will have two choices......

    1. change the pigtail to on as described above and screw the jumbo into this.....

    2. buy a 'conversion adaptor' which screws onto your POL pigtail and converts this into a 21.8mm LH threaded one.....then screw the Jumbo adaptor into this......

Many of the larger Spanish Coastal sites will loan you a gas bottle for a deposit added to your bill for the duration of your stay and refunded on its return. This is helpful if you do not want to carry it around or do not have the gas locker space Just ensure you have a butane pigtail or an adapter for a propane one before you leave the UK. Assuming you are going to connect via your own bulk regulator buy the unregulated connector from just about any ferreteria when you get to Spain.
