Santander Winter Overnight Stop
Travelling to Santander in mid November with Caravan and two dogs, arriving at 5p.m so not wanting to drive vast distance, does anyone have experience of sites open at that time of year in the area, please. Not done this trip before and looking online are having difficulty finding somewhere close- ish.

Odd that you can't see any when you look on line. Google is showing me Camping Cabo Mayor and Camping Virgen del Mar, both quite close to the port and both with websites and reviews. For your dates it will be the second one of those.

We have e-mailed Camping Virgen del Mar to check with them as they are showing a 'No Dogs' logo on their website and we have two travelling with us. Thank you for your help. Have not seen this site come up when trying various websites within 30 mile radius of Santander

As you say Eurotraveller from Cornwall( we also live in Cornwall), second site is no good to us owing to the fact it's closed in November, we did put filters on the sites we went on, e.g open November, dog friendly, caravans accepted and showers. Neither of the sites you gave us showed up, I suspect for those reasons.

It sounds as though it's your dogs which are causing the difficulty.
That's probably why you are driving all the way from Cornwall to Portsmouth for the sake of the dogs, rather than taking the much closer ferry from Plymouth - that ferry gets into Santander about midday and allows an onward drive that same day. But on that ferry it would mean the dogs going into an on board kennel rather than in your cabin.

I am not sure which way you are planning on travelling from Santander, and probably Burgos (120mls) is too far. There is another - Camping Monte Royal (70mls) at Aguilar de Campoo but I'm not sure if this is open in November, so you may need to email for opening dates.

Thank you Mugsy, we will be heading towards Zaragoza so no good for us, should have thought to put that in my initial post, sorry.
we are waiting for a reply from a site at Noja which is about 30 miles from Santander but I expect it's pretty full on at the moment out there so we may have to try them again. Apparently all pet friendly cabins on both sailings are sold out for the time we are able to travel so we were lucky we got them.

try camping oyambre have used it, ok for dogs, 45 mins from port, unfortunately, it is going in opposite direction to zaragoza so you have to back track when you leave, but very good site, it is in one of the clubs magazines as recommended, have used it twice, staff very very helpful and they will stay open until you arrive if you give them a bell once docked. Stayed 4 days great indoor pool, and fab toilet block

The Plymouth / Santander ferry stops running in the first week of November, I think that November 4th is the last, so not a lot of choice really when commitments prevent earlier travel. On the day that the timetable was released we spent 50 minutes and 198 calls to Brittany Ferries to get through to the booking centre, the website had crashed so we were lucky to get a crossing at all. Because we have two dogs and wanted a pet friendly cabin we had to phone Brittany Ferries direct, we cannot go to either of the clubs for a crossing whether for a pet friendly cabin or a kennel on board because we are Club Voyage members. We do not, however consider our dogs 'a problem' we would not have had them if we felt that way.
Thank you for the Oyambre suggestion, we were trying to avoid going 'backwards' but that looks to be the best option. All good fun and a learning curve and hopefully a good time will be had and not too much wet weather!
