The do’s and don’ts of posting on Club Together
Gosh there have been some epic threads over this last week, anyone looking in from outside must wonder what is going on.
eg. “Are we at war”, “Yapping and barking dogs”, “Quiet time” and the classic “Which way to park or pitch” it goes on and on. Threads that wind up CT inhabitants then spiral down into Moderation. It is a pity as 90% of posts and threads are good natured, useful and informative.
I think it is time we got to grips with this discordant 10%, so here is a proposed list of Do’s and Don’ts to help avoid all this apparent unpleasantness.
Most are already covered in the existing guidelines and T’s & C’s, I believe this list builds upon and supplements those.
It is not an exhaustive list by any means and open for discussion, please contribute should you feel there are any deletions or omissions.
Do’s
Do research your topic, try to ensure it has never been posted before. You can use the search facility for this.
If the topic has been touched on before Do read all previous posts. You can also use the search facility for this.
Do, if you are new to CT read several recent posts to get the gist of CT. This will help you decide if you really want to proceed with your posting.
Do get your message across in your first post, this will avoid a lot of questions and speculation of what you really meant.
If you do propose a solution to a question try to make sure it is an answer to the question asked in the OP
Do say it “as it is” but use plenty of smiley emoticons as they help a lot.
Do always retain a sense of humour.
Do allow “each to their own” attitude to exist as this avoids winding each other up.
Do expect the thread to wander off topic and possibly not return.
Do go back to your post and read the thread from start to end, this will help you decide if you ever want to post again.
Do get up to speed with acronyms, use them whenever you can.
Don’ts
Don’t wander of topic, at least read the OP and the thread.
Don’t post moans or groans.
Don’t automatically expect anyone to agree with you.
Don’t use plain English when acronyms will enhance understanding. TIC for example
Don’t automatically expect anyone to understand you
Don’t post on controversial topics (was going to list these but would take too long)
Don’t post on topics that have been recently covered (last 5yrs or so) again use the search facility.
Don’t take any notice of emoticons.
Don’t expect to find a complete solution to any question or problem unless it is a technical one - maybe.
Don’t expect to understand some of the answers to your questions.
Don’t expect to understand some of the humour.
Don’t up the ante if your post has been negatively critiqued in any way whatsoever as you will not win.
Don’t like your own posts it’s poor form, this will be spotted on your profile (yes really) and you will be outed as a self liker.
If you do do any of the above, you‘ve brought it on yourself so don‘t take offence.
Do’s and Don’ts
If you Do wish to cause offence Don’t do it in an offensive way.
Don’ts and Do’s
Don’t comment on a post that you Do not know anything about
Do’s and Do’s
Do keep your postings positive and Do keep them factual
Don’ts and Don’ts
If you Don’t wish to cause offence Don’t bother posting (as somebody somewhere will be)
Apply the above and you might just avoid provoking other CT inhabitants, improbable maybe.

I don’t know whether to laugh or cry.

I find that with all lengthy posts.

well I would have:
1) post what you want when you want
2) don't be nasty

I'm closing this thread before it gets silly. Club Together has its own rules and I don't think we need any more.
