Weekend bookings something has to be done

You've just reminded me Corners. In the mid 90s we booked to go to the site at Great Malvern and paid our £5 deposit. We received notification that the site was flooded and that the CC cancelled our trip. The b****rs never sent our money back!
Think there's any chance if I ask?

This a chance of course!
And don't forget to factor what £5 is worth today and varying interest rates payable on the club having your money for so long

We are frustrated by the amount of sites fully booked at the weekends by people who block book and then cancel 72 hours before arriving. Please CAMC bring back the deposit when booking. The camping and caravan club charge £25 deposit and we are finding we use them more now because their sites show their true availability at weekends.

Ah, so you posted here as well.
True availability is a strange term. Still I’m glad you’ve found something that suits. It’s such a shame that C&CC restrict bookings to two nights at weekends in many instances. It really hinders touring but, when that happens, I just go elsewhere. There’s always an alternative.

yes, there must be a name for people who like to give their money away earlier than they have to
And some sites (I think one of the two newer sites before they were civilised) have non refundable deposits and when booking asks you if you want to take out cancellation 'insurance' with them!

Indeed but this site (The Quiet site, Ullswater) has this in its terms and conditions:
... For bookings 4 nights or more a deposit of £10.00 per night is required at time of booking... Cancellation Policy – Tourers, Motorhomes, VW Campervans, Tents, Trailer Tents, Pods, Pre-Erected Tents. If you wish to cancel a booking you must notify us in writing by either e-mail or regular mail. If you cancel more than 14 days before the start date of your holiday, you will forfeit an administration charge of £10 per night booked and the balance will be
refunded. Alternatively, we can issue a full credit note for all monies paid. No refunds or credit notes will be issued where a cancellation is made within 14 days of the start date of the holiday. Now if I read that correctly (the bold bits) you pay say £40 deposit for four nights and if you cancel more than 14 days before your stay you will lose £10 per night booked, so that is £40, can that be right? You lose it all or am I misreading that?
also yes it is cheap during off peak £15 per pitch if you go tomorrow till Friday, then £20 at weekends but £35 during half term. Troutbeck Head, a few miles away is under £30 at half term and now just over £26. I have been to both (one of the few non club sites I've been to) and TH is far better in every way.

I did the maths and came up with a refund of £zero. I’m glad you confirmed my calculation, Corners.
What a blatant rip off! An admin fee of £10 per booking I could understand but not £10 per night.

I agree with your last comment, we have been, stayed ,and will return when the site is more user friendly (nice area and dog walk though) if some think cc motor caravan waste points are bad and one part of the site has no waste emptying points

I am also using C&CC more than I used to even so it is still about as much as I use CMC sites, each about 16 percent of my nights away. My advice is play the CMC system like others do. If you think you might want a site book it as soon as you think about it, you have nothing to lose if you cancel.

PD I'll save that for when you refuse to name a site
