Just come back from the CoOp near here and the speed limit in their car park is 5mph and it seemed to be observed by their customers

More and bigger humps,membership cannot be trusted to uphold the rule, does not bother me has I really crawl around a site much to the annoyance of other speedy members.

Oh gawd, whatever happened to common sense? Does everything have to be so regulated? Am a the only one that gets fed up with being told how to put one foot in front of another? When travelling in a ‘60’ zone do I always do 60? No, I drive to the conditions. Today, whilst driving back from the club site at Dulverton there were plenty of ‘60’ zones, but conditions dictated that I drove half that speed. Common sense...

So are you saying that you sometimes do 2 1/2 or are you saying  stuff it and go faster than 5 because you think its ok as you dont like being told to go 5. Im confused

I’m saying that when conditions dictate, I come to a dead stop if I see someone on the edge of the road, but in the main, I stick to the site speed limit. I make no inference to the OP, but I sometimes wonder if someone’s idea of a holiday is to play the game ‘spot the infringement’. I’m beginning to wonder if there’s a significant number of fuddy-duddies with nothing better to do.

The problem you may have Freddy is Before proposing the application of common sense surely we need a legal definition and the club to provide rules on its interpretation and use.......? Otherwise how do wardens and members know what common sense means and when its use is appropriate without first having to post a thread on here.......

Speed limits any where are the max allowed  for a safer journey they are not a target to have to be reached always drive to the conditions, that are normally below the max limit

But if you were to take your driving test today, you'd be expected to "make progress" ie not dawdle at 25 in a 30 when the road conditions are perfect (like the numpty in front of me on Sunday on my way home from work and even slowed down to 20 to go through the speed camera )

As can be seen nearly every where there is a speed camera because the "numpty" is not aware and slow down "in case" a classic example is on the A40 in Oxfordshire the max speed on the single carriageway is the national limit but the unaware brake to 40 or below when their "speed camera warning" fires off

Make "progress"has been the correct way of driving since they did away with the man in front with the flag was abolished ,but only if the conditions allow

but your original post ^^ didn't quite say that. I'd say that on most roads, in good weather etc that it's possible to drive way way faster that the signed limit as long as it wasn't passed a school at 3 o'clock

I agree. When passing between rows of caravans, 5mph seems to me to be entirely appropriate. When I arrived at Dulverton, it was three parts empty, and I found myself dawdling around wide open empty spaces. This to me is where common sense should prevail.
