Trip to France arranged for August . We are taking our Motor Home my daughter is traveling by car with her children. Ferry booked to Caen no cabins available on the night ferry therefore taking the 8.15 am depart arriving 3.00 pm . Looking for an overnight for Van + Hotel room . Or if parking good maybe two hotel rooms . All ok on return journey with overnight ferry plus cabins.

Any help would be appreciated

    How far do you want to travel from Caen, before overnighting?

    you could consider Riva Bella site in Ouistreham (a few hundred yards from ferry terminal). There are various hotels in that town.

    in August you would be advised to book ahead.

    High, I'm afraid I don't understand either. If you just want an overnight stop which way will you be heading please ?

    I suppos I am looking for hotel accomadation for my daughter and where we can stay overnight in our motor home. In uk some services have hotels not sure in France

    If you are looking for a hotel in UK before your ferry there is a Travelodge in Portsmouth very near the Terminal, and other ones nearby,  but don't know about parking a Motorhome - call the hotel.  If you mean in France, there are plenty of hotels on major routes eg Premier, Formula 1 etc.  which usually have plenty of parking.  Just Google them and you will find an answer.  But suggest you book ahead as Aug is a busy time.

     I can only say what I would do after a 3pm arrival at Ouistreham  - and it will probably be 3.30pm before you are both unloaded and re united.

    I would drive south and stop at Argentan about 5pm - Motorhome to the highly regarded municipal Camping de la Noe close to the town centre and the family to a hotel or Bed and Breakfast in the town  - which I would choose and reserve from Booking.com. The two halves of the family would be within walking distance of each other and able to meet up for an evening meal together.

    But you of course may have other plans altogether. Good wishes.

    1 1/2 hours south of Ouistreham is the town of Sees. Nice little municipal site and good hotels/restaurants within easy walking distance.

    It strikes me that the OP doesn’t state the destination in France?

    My advice is to open Google maps at the area in France you want to overnight. Search "campsites" and pick one. Then do the same and search "hotels", find the right combination for you and phone and book. Most campsites and hotels have their own websites so you can double check they are suitable for your requirements.

    When traveling by car in France, we use Ibis Budget hotels for our overnight stops. These hotels, and others such as BnB or Campanile, have car parks which cater for itinerant workers and their vans and small trucks.

    In a medical emergency, we once had three night stops in these hotels getting back to UK, parking up our 6-metre motorhome without too much difficulty. Campanile do not have locked gates at night, the others do.

    When we stopped at the Campanile in Calais we were worried about security until we realized all the other hotel guests were Gendarmes!

    It's worth considering provided your motorhome isn't too long. Phone and ask, or Google Earth to see if it looks possible.
