perhaps BG currently allocates pitches, so that visitors know exactly where to go....? I can't remember from my single visit there..
I was wondering the same thing as is often the case on commercial sites. Mind you looking at the layout of the site on Google Earth it would be relatively easy for the Club to change the layout to enable a circular route around the site when they upgrade the site which they will inevitably do at some stage.

if this site was soooo good why was it sold off I wonder. Why wasn't it making enough making money for the owners to keep it? I can't imagine the club making them an offer they couldn't refuse? more like it was failing to make any at all and the club picked a bargain?
So what are you basing your humble opinion on? When was the last time you went to a club site?
Or are you just 'pulling legs' again? You know once you have admitted that it's is difficult to take you seriously?

I think this thread has shown once thing is that there are those that take any chance to have a go at the club no matter what it does? Is it necessary to do so? I get the idea they don't like the club but why keep posting it? I really think some can't help themselves?

...which was what i suggested might happen.....so, perhaps you'll get a few 'yawns', too, David
....but this won't happen straight away, so in the meantime, it might be brushing up on reversing time....
i'm also sure it would change the overall ambiance of the site, obviously removing it's AO (and 'Tranquil') status will make quite a difference.
yes, it's great that CC aquired more sites, I just hope this one isnt changed too much....it's currently very nice....and yes, I've been there.

The site is overlooking an AONB in this part of Dorset, so I would imagine changes to the landscaping etc will require careful management and consideration. I hope people visiting will enjoy seeing the surrounding area and also the peaceful setting of the site.

Businesses are often sold when the books are buoyant, the owners may have wanted a change of direction, or retirement, or something else entirely. Bingham Grange was a very popular site (and it may continue to be under the CAMC)
The owners may have been paid top dollar for the site, it is still like to be a saving for the CAMC though as purchasing a going concern is probably a lot cheaper than buying land and building a new site from scratch. A lot less hassle too, no strung out planning consents etc to accomplish.
Just because a business is successful doesn’t mean it is tied to the owners for life.

Pitches were allocated, at least that was the case when I stayed there last year. Selected my pitch from the site plan at the time of booking.

I expect the reality is that the majority of future visitors to this campsite will have no idea of its previous history beyond knowing that it was a commercial site purchased by the Club. People often enthus about non Club sites, for example the Morris Leisure ones. I have stayed at a couple of ML sites and they are very good but no better than the best the Club have to offer. My previous comment about the site being upgraded was a little tongue in cheek but they no doubt will change the site to meet what the Club see as their standards and these are standards that the best part of the Club's 350000 members seem to approve of. Clearly the change from an independent campsite to a Club owned campsite will see changes mainly I expect in the owner/customer relationship which won't be as personal as it possibly was before. We seem to mourn the loss of sites from the network and now we seem to be mourning the addition of a campsite, we can't have everything. The majority of future customers won't notice any difference and those that previously held the site in high esteem probably won't go there anymore. As simple as that!

At present I think there are more camping pitches than van pitches so I assume that will change unless there are planning restrictions. Also the 12 pm pitching rush will be difficult via the long narrow entrance road, I've never seen a queue there but with the club things might change. I think the present set up with allocated pitches prevents any scrambles and tailbacks onto the busy road.
