If the site has other revenue streams, such as bars and restaurants, it perfectly possible the cost is being covered by that side of the business. So in that respect you are correct, it is free if you do not use them. However, overall it is very unlikely a business is likely to spend a significant amount of money without a way to recoup the capital cost. Do folk really base where they are going to holiday on wether it has free WiFi.?

I think in this day and age most companies and venues provide free WiFi and treat it as another running cost. Lots of younger families will choose a site with wifi because children demand it and adults like to keep in touch with email and social media. When sites do charge for wifi they should have it site wide and plenty of bandwidth for streaming tv and downloads

Whereas at the Thirsk site you will not be able to access any wifi from Air Angel at all and will have to purchase the racecourse's own wifi. No problem with 4G.
It's a pity that the club omit this detail on the website and from the information sheet they hand to you at reception although the wardens do inform you when booking in and the information is displayed on the information board in reception area. You will not even be able to access the clubs own website unless buying it. If you have purchased an annual access pass then you will be disappointed in having to pay an additional amount.

Yes, I know TW. I was merely adding a bit of balance and providing some information for those who don't know and are just assuming that their Air Angel contract will work everywhere.
Doesn't actually bother me as I use my own wifi when away but will tap into the clubs own website if available.

I'm the last one to knock technology - having just bought a Google Chromecast (£20 - on special offer at Curry's, incidentally) - just to convert our Avtex into a Smart TV - but having just read the post "When things were a lot simpler", I have to smile at the issues that seem important today.

yet they've decided that they will offer free wifi to customers..I don't recall their prices moving up when the wifi was installed and they haven't gone up either now it's free...
the CCC model is very similar to cc in that it relies on site income...
however, while not typically having bars etc, both Cubs have other streams of revenue in insurances etc....perhaps this makes sufficient to allow a small concession like free wifi?
perhaps cc insurances aren't doing as well as CCC?

well I suppose when you can't get in to a club site as they are so popular despite this Wifi issue then at least at a CCC site you will 'free' wifi as a compensation

One thought on cc wifi ,as it is run by Air angel and the service is purchased only via them?is it possible that it is a "concession" that has been negotiated by them with the cc,as any "problems"that some seem to have it is air angel not the cc that is contacted?

I doubt we could tell if C&CC prices have gone up, BB. With their vague pricing 'structure' dependant on supply and demand, I don’t think we’d know if they’d slipped an extra quid on the prices here and there.
I've used their Wi-fi with varying degrees of success but it suffers, like others, from overload.

But then i have been "advised?" that the ccc are not doing as well as their accountants like to show,and why would a company that is so succesfull need to spend large amounts advertising on national tv,

the thing is, very simply, is that the club does not offer free wifi, if that is so very important to you (rather than excellent sites with very good clean facilities...) and critical to a good stay then don't use club sites and use another site where your preference will be met.
The club could spend a lot of money in getting the equipment to provide it 'free' but then would that really increase numbers significantly when people are complaining they can't get pitches? I would rather the club spent its money on providing more pitches.

i visit many excellent sites with very good clean facilities.....AND free wifi.....and some also have much more in tne way of facilities....

I've seen it on CH 5, which is national. However, adverts these days aren't necessarily the same from all the regional transmitters, so I've no idea wether it is being broadcast nation wide.
Sky knowing where you live and what you watch, broadcast targeted advertisements for your local area. It's spooky what appears occasionally. Big Brother is watching.☹️

I'm not sure what this info is to do with wifi but here's some details about the C&CC's advertising campaign in 2014.
You can see how the target audiences and areas are chosen. Don't know what the latest target is but I've seen it in the SW but can't remember the channel.0
