I find using my phone as a hotspot gives a better service.

I don't suppose that is particularly surprising. Just checked my phone and it is showing 14 MB download and we don't have a particularly good 4G signal.

Gold and silver sites now have dynamic bandwidth in place, therefore if not many are using it you get a bigger slice of the available speed. However, you are sharing the connection and as more users join the speed drops to about 2MB, which is still fine for emails, general browsing and CT.😀

We are at Hawes site quite a large "village"and the two days we have been here WiFi has been quite good,,it all depends what is available in the area and if it is being used as advised ,also now that it is not school holiday time ,most site users do spend all day streaming films and gameswink

I'm using my phone on 3G in Calais. Still pretty fast except for the CAMC website which is as ponderous as ever.

Hmmm.... I wouldn't be so sure, appearances can be deceptive. Despite being well into our sixties we always have 2 smart phones and a small android tablet with us. All three are often on line when on site via WiFi if we don't have to pay for it, 4G if not. Sometimes a laptop too.

I agree with J2, we usually travel with 2 x Android phones and 2 x I Pads and we are of a certain age.

Sites like Slinfold are a waste.  I was down the bottom end of the site and couldn't get wifi until I put up my I booster after 24 hours a big largish MH parked next to me so signal was total blocked.  The site really hasn't wifi set up correctly for the benefit of its customers.  Fortunately 4G was stable

I think I meant - parents plus several children all online.

A couple usually uses only two devices at once. We take two phones and an Ipad (and occasionally a laptop - but less often nowadays) - but don't use them all at the same time. Maybe when we retire (as if) we'll master texting/emailing/streaming from all four at once.

I have just returned from the Lake District where we stopped at "the other club" site and was amazed that WI-FI IS FREE !!!!!. If the Camping and Caravan Club can supply this why cannot the  Caravan & Motor Home do the same ??

If you look at my previous link to the C&CC WiFi "free" provision it is quite limited and often hot spot based.

You’ve obviously not been reading the posts in this thread, MrP, or your C&CC mag, or their website 😄

I do wonder if the ccc are having"problems" they are spending large amounts on tv advertising, they noow are offering "free"but very limited , it seems, wifi on sites where it is available, and i have been recieving emails offering 30%discounts for seniors surprised at peak periods

I've not seen any TV adverts but there again my viewing is very selective. Unless the accounts are telling porkies the C&CC is doing better than the C&MC. Its membership growth is greater and so is its profitability. The 30 percent is for grass pitches and is not just for seniors and even that is at selected site. All the offers are there to encourage use of less popular (for what ever reason) sites and pitches. I think offering seniors a 20 percent discount in peak periods at selected sites is a good move even though it represents a 5 percent increase on the normal off peak age concession. I have certainly used it in the past in preference to a C&MC site. All in all the discounts appear to contribute to increased pitch occupancy and profit.

Making WiFi free means they can easilly field complaints and avoid investing in a dead duck. 4G is good when available and 5G has the potential to render public WiFi obsolete.

The adverts could be regional JVB. You need to look at the discounts a little more deeply.

I think your view about the provision of free wifi with the C&Cc could be correct Peedee, it saves on disappoint if the user has read the catch all details.

Yes, easy to see which discounts could be useful, then there is a map showing which sites it applies to, and if an area you are interested in you can investigate further, no need to read through everything.

We got an extra £10 off on one of our stays coming up in July.  That, the more restricted peak periods, and the age discount makes the sites a lot less expensive for us than the nearby CAMC ones.

Lower site costs = more nights away.

You just need to use it more JVB, you will  soon get used to it!

We have been members for 3 years now , found it time consuming to start with but much easier now.

Time is something we have plenty of, and we like the fact that we can leave it much later before booking.

AFAIK, my correspondence said (and also actually having used the discount this past week) the offers are....

10% discount for age concession members at a long list of sites in off peak....at least they know what off peak is....

20% discount for age concession at same list of sites but in peak...

30% discount for grass pitch users....haven't read the detail on that one yet wink

The majority of businesses offer free WiFi nowadays, & I think club sites should up their game, get up to date & make WiFi available for free at all sites! I recently paid for 1 year & the 2 sites we've been to I've not been able to use the WiFi at all because the signal was too weak to even connect, so yes it is a waste of money. I shall use my phone data from now unless the club can better the strength.

It would be interesting to know what sites ALET as I have yet to come across a site (that has site wide internet) where I could not establish a connection, as shown by the Icon in the photo below. However, seeing that does not mean you have established a  two way link with the server and internet. It's perfectly possible to have a full signal icon and not be able to log on.

At busy times, such as when folk return from a day out, it may refuse connection simply because it is overloaded. In these situations I have not normally had a problem when I have tried later on.
