Beaune to Zeebrugge 1 or 2 night stopover

Early July we will be travelling back to Zeebrugge ferry from Beaune. Looking for a stopover for one maybe two nights. Was thinking of Chalons en Champagne but reviews don't seem great. Site facilities appear to be deteriorating. Can anyone recommend an alternative.

We can recommend the municipal site at Val de Vesle just south of Reims. Haven't been there in July though - might be busy so phone them up and make a reservation. Friendly bijou site. Here's a link.  Note that there are no shops in the village and no public transport; however, we're told that Reims can be reached by bike.

    And Beaune

We last used Chalons May 2017, the showers have had a make over and the site is as it has been for the last 6 years, we didn't find it a problem and stayed for 3 nights.

Looks a lovely site, checked out the link you gave thanks only problem I can foresee for us is that the site appears to be closed between 11.00 and 16.00, bit inconvenient for arrivals, unless you are allowed to go in and find a pitch then pay once office opened. Can you remember if this was the case. Couldn't find anything on their website about prices either.

The family that run the site live in the house at the gate. Just ring the bell and they open the gate. Check in and pay later when he office opens. Reserved pitches have markers with your name on. Last year we paid about 13 or 14 euros for the night. Good quality wifi is free too!

Thanks for that, it would be a good first night for us coming from Zeebrugge in May.

Hence the question about arrivals we would normally arrive around 14.30 - 15.00. Nice to find another site in the area and if we can cycle into Reims even better.smile

It's an ok site at Val de Vesle but, if it's the site I am thinking of (I get brain fade these days) there is some water at one end of the site and I got hammered by mossies before I realised they were there. Made a fair old mess of both ankles. Obviously they fancied some prime white Yorkshire meat as my other half (not from Yorkshire) was (as usual) totally untouched.

Thought being so far north mossies would not be an issue in May - wrong!
