Verdon gorges
Hi everyone not been here before, but ardeche last year, just asking if anyone has some knowledge on this region and the lake, we are camping car people and was just asking if there are many campsites around this area, can't find many on my search

We've toured it too - and used to spend a lot of time there years ago, with friends. The lake is lovely and warm, but the Verdon river is freezing even in mid-summer. There are lots of sites all around the lake, and in the towns and villages around. Perhaps you're only looking at those offered by the Caravan and Motorhome Club?
Have a look on the Eurocampings website (www.eurocampings.co.uk). The link is to a snapshot of those in that area of Provence but you'll need to zoom in and then click on one of the pins on the map - those showing numbers show the number of sites around that particular place. Then you can look at individual site details. If there is a CC displayed on the site details then it means it accepts the ACSI Card which will give you a discounted rate (www.campingcard.co.uk).There are so many sites to choose from - and as Motorhome owners you also have Aires de Service Camping Car to add to that list.
What sort of sites are you looking for - and what season will you be travelling? Low season is no problem but in high season the Gorges area is a popular holiday area and so sites will be more under pressure and the popular ones possibly booked up already.

Stunning area. We stayed in Les Salles sur Verdon at Camping Les Pins, a very short walk from Lac de Ste Croix and overlooking it on tiered pitches. NB. The pitches were small but was a good base for the area before we continued towards Monaco and the French Riviera.

The gorge is certainly stunning - we drove it both ways in a car, but the driver doesn't get the chance to see much ! With a Motorhome you may prefer to take one of the minibus tours which run regularly.
Had we been younger we would have scrambled down into the bottom of the gorge and tackled some of the Sentier Martel, but no.....those days have gone by.
The lake certainly looked beautiful but we aren't into watersports so we only looked, and after a few days in the area we went away to places with more villages, more markets, more restaurants, and more civilisation.

As others have suggested, lac Sainte Croix and the Verdon Gorge are places to see and views to behold, but not not a 'destination' as a holiday centre. You can bungee jump off the bridge if you're seeking excitement. A few days stay by the lake and a drive up the gorge are recommended. As with many man-made lakes, Sainte Croix lacks something - and the far side is out of bounds.

The lake is stunning and there are pedallos for a bit of fun to explore the canyon. There is a drive around with stopping places to scare yourself with the height.
This was a day out for us as were staying on the only campsite in Volonne a good few kilometres away.

Hi valda very helpful as per, thinking of going late May early June for 3 weeks, we have acsi card on order, trying to miss the school holidays and loud children
