Planning on visiting Verteuil-sur-Charente. Not used an Aire before.

Has anyone used this Aire if so any comments?

As it will be the first Aire we have used any hints and tips for Aires in general?

Whats the best time to arrive or will it just be pot luck?

We stayed there overnight a couple of years ago - see video.

Go across the beautiful park at the side of the Aire, cross the bridge over the river and it's a couple of minutes walk to shops and restaurants.

Very quiet at night, it was free to stay overnight, water and waste disposal free but EHU cost a couple of Euro.

River slow flowing in June and kids were paddling in it, some canoes/kayaks in the deeper parts and a really pleasant place.

There is a Chateau with conducted tours

Narrow roads on the approach through the town but not a lot of traffic to be a real problem.

We arrived about noon but it didn't get full up the day we were there.

    Hope this helps.

I would suggest that you have an alternative Aire in mind just in case the one you are heading for is full. Then you can just move on. This is one of the many pluses of being in a motorhome.

Thanks Keith & Margaret for info. Video very informative.

Maggie I have the Aires book so will check for alternatives but hopefully should be quiet in first week of June.

Hints and Tips for Aires -

Park sensibly, try and park with your habitation door not facing your neighbours door, say 'Bon Jour' to everyone regardless of their nationality, keep a few One and Two Euro coins handy for water, Ehu or if bread is delivered, always make sure you know where the nearest Boulangerie or Patisserie is for breakfast goodies, have a couple of Credit/Debit Cards to use if the Aire has a barrier, make sure your Wine cabinet never runs out, use a device like CamperContact to find the nearest Aire when you move on and generally have a good time.

No pegs, no 6 metres rule, no wardens, arrive when you want and leave when you want, no checking in Reception, very few rules - you might even relax and enjoy yourself.
