Are you a motorhome or a caravan? Looking for sites open at that time of year could be a challenge.

Depending on the route you take you may need to consider all weather/winter tyres.

Is this a 'serious' question or do you just want to see how many daft replies you get?

Still need to know what sort of unit you have as that rather decides the sort of answers there are to your question. If you have a motorhome there might be more options compared to a caravan.

I suspect the weather in Italy in January and February might be just as wet and cold as the UK.  Venice is notorious for wet and cold.  I cannot imagine that you would find many sites open at that time of year.

To the OP, if you are thinking of hot balmy days then forget it, probably a struggle to reach mid teens. Save your trip for a bit later if weather is a prime concern.

My brother usually spends the winter, from November to March, in Sicily  in his MH🌞. Even that far south they can get very wet and windy weather🌧

Leave your caravan at home and fly somewhere!  It is a VERY LONG WAY to Sicily!  Driving through France, Germany, Austria and N Italy, as far south as Tuscany, can be very tricky in winter If you want to caravan then it is better to look at Spain/Portugal.  Sorry but all the advice you have received so far is negative and suggests that you may be better thinking of something elsecry

Remember if you do go and take the route through Germany, then new (updated) winter tyre legislation starts this January with all tyres having to have the 'snowflake' symbol. Although there is a transition period.

I worked in the south of Italy for 18 months, we had snow in January!

Quite unusual though, and the first time many of the locals had ever seen snow.

A site you might want to consider visiting is Caravan Park Sexten as it is open all year and has great reviews from our members. It looks fantastic too (pictures below)!

Also have a look at our useful information section of the website in the overseas section as there is information here on touring in Europe.

I wish you all the very best for your trip. Please keep us updated on Club Together on how you get on. smile

Hardly winter sun at that Sexten campsite  - it's a ski resort high in the mountains - with overnight temperatures this weekend forecast as minus 11C.

Apart from getting there (700 miles from Calais), you'll need chains on car and caravan! Here's the webcam from Sexten.pos52

The webcam link above is live, and will change through the day. The motorhome seen departing at 14:00 has now gone from the picture at  14:15.

My apologies, I missed the bit about winter sun!

This looks fantastic though and an area I would personally like to stay. The campsite looks beautiful from the pictures and it would be quite an adventure! When I was younger we drove to Switzerland towing a trailer tent. That was one of the best holidays I have ever had. smile

Youande, it might be worth having a look at the touring Europe guides for campsite ideas (reports in the guide from members of the Club) or ordering our travel brochures. Both can be ordered from the Club Shop
