AJB, If you look closely, you will see that is the 2017 one!

Same one that I found.   The date is in very small print.

I think we have had this issue before where the up to date brochure is a bit late in being published. I am asking Rowena for an update.

....and the text I used was taken from the brochure sent to me in response to my request for a quote on 10th Jan 2018.  There are times when I wonder whether the systems will ever be up to date!!

    Hi everyone,

We are currently working on a new Red Pennant brochure to ensure members know what options are available to them when looking for European breakdown cover and holiday insurance. As a Club we are constantly listening to our members and some of the points raised in this discussion will be taken into account for the new brochure. We also try to ensure that our products are developed in line with our member’s needs.

The Long Stay policy is designed for members who are looking to take an extended holiday; be it touring around a number of Countries or sites across Europe or basing themselves at one of our sites for the winter and escaping the British winter. Understanding that members may have commitments in the UK during this time, which they need to  come back for, we have introduced an allowance of up to two return trips home, of up to 14 days per trip. Although there is no longer a 122 day Long Stay policy, this duration is still available as a Single Trip option. We have also introduced extended Long Stay durations which we hope will benefit members. These can be viewed at the bottom of this post along with all the durations that are available for Single Trip and Annual Multi-Trip policies.

The type of holidays described in this discussion may be better suited to the Annual Multi-Trip policy which is designed for multiple trips within a year.  However we appreciate that the 66 day entitlement may restrict the type of holiday you can take. We are working on increasing our Annual Multi-Trip policy durations to meet the needs of our members who do a combination of trips.

The other exciting news is that our Motoring and Personal PLUS Policy now offers cover for flight, coach and train holidays within Europe, which again we hope will meet member’s needs if they are planning different types of holidays within the year. For our members that only plan holidays where their vehicle is the primary means of travel the Standard cover is still available.

The durations we now offer are:

    Single Trip:

    1-6 days
    7-12 days
    13-24 days
    25-31 days
    32-45 days
    46-66 days
    67-94 days
    95-122 days

    Annual Multi-Trip:

    31 days
    45 days
    66 days

    Long Stay:

    185 days
    275 days
    365 days

Remember that Red Pennant is there to help you to continue your holiday should you have a mishap. The Emergency Services team here at Head Office in East Grinstead will be on hand to get you on the way again.

You can either telephone the Club’s Contact Centre to get a quote (01342 336633) or visit the Red Pennant pages on the Club’s website.

Full benefits for each policy type and the terms and conditions of each can be viewed via the Key Policy Documents also available via the above link.

I hope this information is useful and thank you for your feedback.

Ive just done the exercise for renewing my annual multi trip with RP (did the online chat thing as well)....having not been aware before of the fact that this is a "Home to Home" policy.

ie... A 31 day month abroad trip is negated by a ferry pitch stop the night before embarkation and a travel home from disembarkation from an overnight ferry...(33 days) hence you have to take the 45 day option at a cost of £79 extra..this also applies to to 45 day period...that equates to £160 on top of the £283 for standard cover... a total of £433 for standard cover for trips in excess of 45days including the "Home to Home" clause.

Sorry RP, like others on another thread here...The C&CC beat you hands down, more flexibility,  £1 cheaper for ident  cover, but more importantly 93 day allowance anyone trip...

Thanks for the update. Interesting about the inclusion of other types of holiday. However no mention of Cruises which I thought would have been a popular alternative to our hobby by members as they are mentioned quite often. Are they covered or excluded. It would be nice to have a catchall policy for all sorts of European holidays.

    Hi everyone

I've been speaking to the Red Pennant team and in answer to GTP’s comments, we do encourage members to take out the policy to cover them from home to home in order to give them full protection for the entirety of the trip.  Having cover in place from when you leave home means that should you have a mishap on the way to the port, not only will you be assisted but your holiday will be protected. For example, if your vehicle was unrepairable you would still have full policy benefits i.e. £2000 (£4000 on PLUS) towards a replacement vehicle (with a tow bar where possible) and if necessary £2000 (£4000 on PLUS) towards alternative accommodation as well as any necessary crossing amendment costs.

That said, following member feedback we have recently changed our approach to the “Home to Home” restriction and as such we would not prevent you from taking your policy out to start from the point in which you leave the UK and end upon your return to the UK. If you opt to do this, these benefits would not apply outside of the 48 hours prior to departure.

Other policies may offer one or the other of these benefits but maybe not all of them together as we do and they may have lower benefit limits. They also may charge an additional premium to add the replacement vehicle to the policy which we will not do.

With regards to the terms of cover, it is advisable to look at the benefit entitlement of each to truly compare.  We believe that Red Pennant offers far more.  For example:

    Roadside Assistance cover:

C&CC covers up to “£350, including £100 of labour” on both Standard and Supercover.

Red Pennant will cover the “Total Cost” for Roadside Assistance and Towing to Nearest Garage and also covers Labour up to “£250” (£500 on PLUS which covers labour and parts).

Towing costs on the Continent can be very expensive, especially when dealing with caravans and motorhomes, as a Club we want to ensure these are covered and you don’t have to worry about paying a difference if they come in above a benefit limit, which is why we pay the total cost.

We hope that members understand that we are trying to keep the costs for Red Pennant as low as possible. Adding cruise cover to our Motoring and Personal policies would have a significant impact on the purchase price which is why it is not currently covered. We appreciate that one policy for everything would be fantastic but we do have to look at the needs of all our members.

We are continuing to review and develop Red Pennant to ensure it meets as many members needs as possible and remains competitive within the market. For us it is about providing the means for you to continue your holiday where possible with minimum interruption. If you need us, the Caravan and Motorhome Club will look after you each step of the way.

Don’t forget that the Contact Centre staff are available to answer any questions should you wish to speak to them so please feel free to give them a call.

    Rowena

Thanks for the clarification. It seems that most seem more concerned about the Breakdown/Recovery element of Red Pennant where as for us it is the Personal Cover which is equally important. The flexibility that RP shows towards medical conditions is appreciated and the fact that the premium is not weighted like most other policies is a real advantage.

Excellent news re the relaxation of the home to home rule, especially for those of us who live a long way from the ferry ports and have time to make the UK part of the journey into part of the holiday by also visiting friends and family on the way.

I just got a quote this week and it included a brochure, here are the periods:

Motoring only and Motoring and Personal Premiums:

    ST: 1-6, 7-12, 13-24, 25-31, 32-45, 46-66, 67-94, 95-122.

    AMT: 31, 45, 66.

    LS: 122, 185

I did read somewhere last week that they have added two more day groups but I cant remember what they are, except they were longer than I needed.

Sorry Rowena...Just got off the phone with RP...said there is no work around regarding the 'Home to Home ' clause, which means a hefty jump in cost to the next 'away from home' band of 45 days (£80 for just a couple of days over the 31 days!!!). I did mention your intervention and quote above on the forum...RP said their hands are tied...

We are continuing to review and develop Red Pennant to ensure it meets as many members needs as possible and remains competitive within the market...

Rowena...perhaps RP, with access to around ½ million membership, could look at another insurance provider....C&CC offers 93days away any trip on a multi trip policy..why can't RP ??..just asking.

    Hi GTP,

I'm sorry that you were misinformed regarding the Home to Home cover when you contacted us over the weekend.  RP will allow cover to start from the day you leave the UK rather than the day you leave home but does mean that some benefits of cover will not apply as described earlier in the discussion.  I will arrange for one of the Team Leaders to contact you to discuss this further. In relation to the 93 day Motoring and Personal Annual Multi Trip cover, this is something that has been under review with the club and we do hope this will be available to members soon, as it stands however it would not include all trips types so cruises would still not be covered.  That's not to say that this wont change in the future. The alternative using RP would be to use the Club's Personal Insurance that does include cruise cover and take motoring insurance for motoring based holidays.

Thanks dinker, Was not aware of that thread from 2016....nothing changed then, except an increase from £60 to £80 for exceeding the 31 days...an increase of 33% in under 2yrs !!..

Rowena, thank you for your reply....RP did contact me and explained that cover can be available 'port to port', although this is not explained when obtaining a quote via online...However this does not help with the main issue, primarily with the second of our European trips, is that due to ferry schedules on our preferred crossings...our 'port to port' would still be 33 days(disembarking at Portsmouth on the 33day)...hence an extra £80 for 2 days..as the only option available is to take out the 45 day policy.

The alternative using RP would be to use the Club's Personal Insurance that does include cruise cover and take motoring insurance for motoring based holidays.

I don't understand this sentence....  how can Motoring Insurance for motoring based holidays cover the Personal insurance part of the holiday !!! and I don't know how 'cruise' cover came into the discussion. I thought the priority of the 'club' would be for caravan and motorhome users not 'cruise' insurance...

Like others I will opt for the C&CC Personal & Motoring Insurance at £282 for Multi Trip who offer 93 days away in anyone trip...

The period of insurance going in large steps like that is very annoying, and always has been, I remember on our first time using RP back in 1999 we had not checked the periods before booking ( we were tied to a certain period anyway) and ended up being 2 days into a much more expensive one.

You only make that mistake once!

Even if it went in say 7 day steps it would help.
