Calais to Versailles

Just asking if anyone is familiar with this route.  Thinking of doing 3 nights at Versailles before heading of Clermont bound and beyond.

Just wondering if the route gets hairy within the environs of Paris?

Last time we went from Calais to Versailles we didn’t mix it with the Paris traffic. We went down via Rouen.

Same here didn't go anywhere near Paris, Versailles is worth a visit though.

Agree, avoid the peripherique as there is one section possibly on the route with a low height limit going into  tunnel.

Suggest you book ahead but even if you do, there are likely to be long queues to get in which you can't avoid.

The carriage museum close by is also worth a visit and was free when we went.

We used the Huttopia site nearby which is a short walk and bus trip.

We used Huttopia but drove to Versailles early morning. Buying tickets at camping site saves at least one queue! But being early is a must to get quick access and good parking.

We turned up a about 1pm and had no problems with parking or entry and that was in early August, perhaps we were just luckylaughing
