It's the fist weekend in January and amazingly, after some pretty awful weather, the sun is shining here (at the moment)! So, with hopefully some crisp sunny winter days ahead, have you got any plans this January? Are you out in your caravan or motorhome? Or maybe planning for your 2018 holidays?

I'm hoping to get lots of walks in this month to get fresh air for the family and valuable time together (as well as walk off some of the extra weight gained over the festivities!). Starting this weekend with a walk on the South Downs by the Jack and Jill windmills. One of my favourite places.

I would love to hear what your plans are...

We've been in Cornwall in the static since Boxing Day. We've had some very wild, wet and windy weather, but one good thing about having dogs (amongst many!) is that you have to get out walking every day whatever. We haven't been far afield but either on Penhale Dunes or Perranporth beach twice a day every day.

Home for a couple of weeks on Monday, then off to Costa Rica at the end of the month for some overdue sun and to celebrate a big birthday (the one where that nice Philip Hammond starts sending me cash each month! wink)

We're at Priestfield Grange CL at present before heading down to another at Crich on Monday. It's been the wettest New Year trip for a long time and Flyte seems to be forever dirty, wherever we walk. We'll get home sometime around the middle of the month for a couple of weeks before heading off somewhere else!!

Unfortunately we're not away.   Was hoping to get a couple of weekends in during January but not looking hopeful.   My soldier son is visiting from Germany until 20th so not able to get away and then I've got an appointment for an MRI (unless I get a cancellation) so it might be February before we can get away.

Like ABM we also seem to have a lot of expense coming up, VED, car insurance, a ferry crossing to Germany in March, damp repair to the van booked in for April, car service and 1st MOT in Feb and a well overdue decoration of our hall, stairs and landing.

In general, I don't think this will be good year for us in terms of vanning as, but we are planning a week in North Devon in mid-June.

Hoping to get away at end January/February OH been given a provisional date for his shoulder op as 23 March which just happens to be the day after we come back from Lanzarote. He will need a 4-6 week recovery then should be good to go. A little later than normal but still leaves us with 5 - 6 weeks hols in France to look forward to.

We have not made any plans as yet as we are expecting no.3 grandchild in early March.

Meantime  we are helping our daughter with stuff at her house in preparation for the new arrival.

Lots of re-arrangement of rooms and furniture!

Hoping to get away over Easter, but we shall see how things go.

Mr Brue and I have decided to spend January alone at home together, along with a mountain of tissues, a supply of antibiotics and synchronised coughing. Plus an old but fit  terrier, who has a big garden but prefers a walk in the mud beyond the gate requiring superhuman efforts on the part of her owners just now. Onwards and upwards! smile

It's a bit too early for us to decide when our first outing will be.  Hopefully, February - looks like January is panning out to be a bit busy.

We were supposed to be on a cruise but it was cancelled by the owners so we will be heading off south the same as last year instead.

We would happily go away in January, but the last week in November is the van's birthday, so that means insurance due, and the habitation service and base vehicle service all in the one week.. The usual Christmas expenses follow in December, so January is always a month of financial recovery. We will be going somewhere in February, not sure where, and will book just before we go. Later in the year Scotland and Devon are on the wish list for 2 or 3 weeks each but no need to decide or book that for a while yet.

Hi Everyone, I am new to this site, but have been caravanning since I was a small boy, so for about 50 years!

We are looking to book another visit to Leonards Cove Caravan site near Dartmouth in the spring, a really lovely site and nice facilities, highly recommended!

I am also in the process of writing my first book "The Ultimate book of Shepherd's Pies, with 52 very different recipes! I can hear people saying 'Shepherds Pie is just....well, its just Shepherds Pie! But my book will show you just how many versions there are and will amaze you all with the most inventive recipes you have ever seen. I have great memories of family meals in the caravan over the years and Shepherds Pies definitely features high on my favourites list. Its just perfect caravanning food!

I would really love to to hear from anyone who loves Shepherds Pie as much as we do and for any helpful comments. If you would like a copy of my book please let me know!

Have a great time and birthday.

Did you see one of the Christmas Would I lie to you? One of the team (can't remember who) said she booked a holiday in Costa Rica thinking it was in Spain and only realised on the plane when the flight time was over 10 hours that it wasn't?

....wherever we decide to go this year, I'd bet money it wouldn't be Costa Rica and it would unlikely be Spain.  smile

I feel your pain although not as many as six but certainly a fair few.   Our repair is scheduled for April as that was the earliest they could fit us in.     Same area in the toilet again!

We have the Motorhome back from storage on the drive for a while. Not sure why but Mrs. HG seems to want to keep an eye on it and to use it for storage for the pending visit of son and grandchildren from Australia.

Apart from that it’s wet, cold and muddy and they keep closing the golf course due to rain and snow which is a real tragedy. Boring really.
