We are currently planning next years holiday to France in August

As in previous years; we will be returning home on the morning ferry from Caen.  We are looking for a campsite within 30 minutes of the ferry where there will be somewhere to have a meal out.

past 2 years we have stayed at Bella Riva (formerly Les Pommiers) but do not want to stay there again.

any recommendations.?

Riva Bella is supposedly much improved, but if you really don't want to stay there then from sites in the immediate area this one gets some of the best review scores:  Camping du Prieure.  Otherwise lots of people seem to stay at Les Hautes Coutures (I think which is a Yelloh village) which is near to the route you'll be using to exit Ouistreham.

There is another site 'Yelloh village' just another 5 minutes further along the road towards Pegasus Bridge that we use, much prefer it to Les Pommiers, they have there own restaurant, bar and lovely swimming pool. At that time of year I would book in advance though.

Snooky, for an 8am. ferry I would choose a site as close as possible to the ferry port, one where you can remain hitched up overnight, and where you know the barrier will be open so that can roll out at 7am. for the 7.15 am check in. There is only the one.

Chateau de Martragny is about half an hour from the port and if you pitch on the main drive (which has EHU) it is easy to depart ie no barrier. A bit expensive I agree but for one night....

    Hi Snooky,

A lot of our members use Le Point du Jour site when getting the early morning ferry back home.

    Happy researching cool.

    Hi

There is an excellent aire alongside the ferry port.  Also a couple of restaurants close by.  We didn't eat in the restaurants so cannot recommend but the aire looked OK.  We were there for the overnight ferry so didn't need to stay.

Stayed at Riva Bella last year. It is much improved. Work was still underway on a swimming pool then.

reasonable size pitches, and able to stay hitched. Everybody to their own choice, but for us it is so convenient.

Riva Bella is much improved since being taken over and new pool is complete,

Aire by ferry port is not for caravans and is noisy at night because there always seems to be a ferry in port with an engine running.

    Hi spooky.

Returning often from our home near Saumur on the morning ferry, we often stayed on port overnight, park up on left just inside the barriers take a pleasant stroll into Ouistreham for an evening meal. Enjoy your trip.

Thank you for replies - Tracy the reviews for the site you suggest are not favourable so will look at Yelloh sites

migrants were running round Riva Bella site last year hence reluctance to stay there again

Snooky, the Yelloh village site does have some long pitches down the bottom of the site by the canal, (coded back gate direct onto path)that you could stay hitched up if required, basic facilities down there but decent ones  further up site if walking isn't a problem. The pool is good so is the bar/restaurant. No problem getting out in the morning as the barrier is also coded.

Les Hautes Coutures is no longer in the Yelloh village group but has reviews on UKCampsite.co.uk which are worth looking at.
