Amendment Policy

just been informed by Grimstead Towers that I can amend a booking within the 72 hours cancellation period without it being considered a cancellation ie I need to amend a booking that should commence Saturday 9th December for 5 nights to start on Sunday 10th December for 4 nights and was told I can amend anytime up to and including Saturday and that this is OK because it is an amendment and not a cancellation. Is this correct ? It seems wrong IMO

That is correct, you can ammend a site booking up to the day before arrival, without any  repercussions

Yes, there's no problem. We recently made a booking at Bolton Abbey for 4 nights but when we booked in at the site changed the booking to 3 nights without any comeback.

Yes that's correct , amendments can be made without penalties its to supply some flexibility where members need to change bookings without cancellation of the original booking.

Why would it seem wrong .👍its club policy.

It seems wrong because I can book a two week period and 12 hours before the start date I can amend the booking and cancell the first week leaving the second week intact ,so in effect I have cancelled a booking 12 hours befor the start date without a penalty which seems to go against club policy 👎

You can cancel it on the day if you like so long as you make another club booking you would not be penalised.

Good policy that benefits members, do not see what your issue is?

"Ammendment" means, to me anyway, that the original booking still exists.  It will no doubt have the same booking number, just the dates will be different.

If you want to experiment - cancel your booking and make another.  You will get a new booking number and the wrath of Grimstead Towers!

Surely if you cancel the first night less than 72 hrs before arrival that is a cancellation?  I can see if you arrive on the correct booked day but want to stay for one less night at the end it would be OK if your stay is over 3 nights.

I tried to amend a booking yesterday from a standard pitch to a fully serviced pitch but the system would not let me do that?

Yes that's correct you can only amend dates & not pitch types , you need to cancel one & rebook another pitch selection & hope you don't forfeit the original booking period , while you do it .

There is a way it can be done by  briefly having 2 booking at the same site .

On your first point , its an amendment not a cancellation  because you are keeping the original booking number  , you don't receive notification for an amendment for dates changed .

I seem to remember someone pointing out a loophole in the 72 hour cancellation deadline. You can amend your booking without penalty as long as at least one night of your original booking remains. So you can do that, leaving yourself outside the 72 hour mark and then cancel without penalty even if your original booking was for the next day.

Seems a bit daft to me - mind you, I can'tell vouch for it since I've never had reason to cancel late anyway, thank goodness! smile

The amendment policy is at it (currently) stands. In one sense it applies to applies to all so is fair to all and so is it right to call it wrong?

It's a good job no one from HQ takes much notice of the postings on here otherwise this anomaly would be corrected 😊 The moral being never cancell a booking just ament to last day then cancell.

Amendments are totally above board & are club policy .

Was the OP  purely hypothetical  or was it a genuine post , or do you have some complaint / axe to grind against members that use the system that's available to us all .............😜

And you're probably correct about people / HQ not taking much notice about the contents of some posts on CT IMO .

OP is 100% genuine, I was amazed to find this is possible within the booking system. I have absolutely no problem in anyone useing the system as it allows however a more professional IT management would never allow such a compromise IMO

Thanks for that about OP 👍  , I can imagine that some members don't even know you can make amendments to dates , without cancelling a booking .

I think it is probably likely that the Club are fully aware of what some people see as a major flaw in the system. I suspect the issue is that if they try to close it down it would prevent people amending bookings as mentioned by the OP. This surely would mean that members who find themselves needing to change a booking by a day, within the 72 hours, would probably have to cancel the whole booking with no guarantee that it could be re-booked for the days they wanted. If the Club feel that this element of the booking system is being misused to such an  extent that it is disadvantages other members they will react to that as they did when they found that some were taking advantage of no shows or late cancellations.

I suspect that with many commercial sites if I phoned to say I would be arriving two days later for a 5 night booking but still wanted 5 nights they would not see a problem if space was available as they suffer no loss

I think threads like this only serve to highlight how to "play" the system!

Frankly I think the booking sytem is way below the standard of what any commercial chain would employ but hey ho, its a Club and the system suits the many. There is no need to be concerned it might not be maximising profit which could be used to keep pitch prices down, we will just pay more for our pitch or membership instead for the privilege of a flexible system.

I am going to make three bookings today knowing that if I change my mind I can amend or cancel them without any reprecussions. A fourth, I am going to leave until a bit nearer the time because a deposit is involved.

Lol, well looking at that in the cold light of day I have to admit I may have been under the influence. However it wasn't Chianti but some evil stuff called Strega that seems to be offered when visiting older distant relatives.
