Rear view camera mists up/flashes at night
We have now had TWO new twin rear view/reversing camera fitted in succession by the (hitherto excellent) dealership who supplied our MH.
It's the Dual Heavy Duty Colour Camera dual camera AW-9770 - has anyone else got one of these (have a look at the image to check, it's from one of those trade only suppliers) and how is driving at night for you?
The reversing camera down the back of the MH works fine all the time, and the rear view in the day time is perfect - but at night the rear view camera just mists up when light level is very low eg going through a tunnel of trees and even when car headlights come into view behind us it stays misted till there is a lot more surrounding light. And even driving in town under streetlights and with light from headlamps etc it can randomly flicker up with the misty screen and swapping colour to black and white. Very distracting all round
I have sent video to the dealership and they are now saying my expectations are too high and I can't expect to be able to use it like a rear view mirror at night! But if it's dark I understand and accept that all I'll see is headlights behind me. Is that too much to ask?
Any ideas? Or does anyone else have a rear view camera that works at night without all this distracting flashing and misting up that I can suggest replaces the one we've got?

I think you need to consider how well any camera works at night, Lemmy.
I suspect the 'misting' is over exposure. A photographer would explain it far better than I but, essentially, the camera needs a far greater level of light to work properly. Expecting to see headlights in the dark is rather like taking a photo into the sun.

Thanks Tinwheeler, sadly you may well be right about whether any camera works at night. the thing is I don't need it to be fantastic - dim or fuzzy is fine ... but the current random flashes and misting make it unuseable at night.
I have attached a photo of the camera - someone may have the same one?
If so I was hoping they could tell me how theirs coped with night time use ie am I alone with this 'misting'?
And also if anyone actually does have a good camera for night time use as I would consider swapping mine over if so!

Maybe have a word with Roadpro who have a good working knowledge of mhome and Lorry cameras,
At least they can tell what are reasonable expectations are.
Our previos camera had night vision, and some cars following us with headlights caused glare and confused the vision, but vision was ok, and good when parked up for fox spotting !
Rgds
Ps a web search for Roadpro will find them, very useful firm that has sound knowledge of what they sell.

Hi Lemmy, We had similar looking twin cameras fitted by our (also otherwise excellent dealer) just over two years ago when we bought our motorhome from new.
Obviously the night view is not as good as the day view, but the night time image from our camera does not look anywhere near as bad as your photos. I don't think your dealers comment is reasonable given the look of the image on the right.
The problem we have had is that the cameras seem prone to water ingress. I have had the motorhome back to the dealer three times now to rectify this/replace a camera, as we have had fogging up of the rear pointing camera. This usually happens after we had been driving for an hour or so, and the image looks like foggy day. The wide angle downward pointing camera has now suffered the same fate, and I am going back to the dealer to discuss this again with them. Four failures in just over two years is poor reliability for any piece of equipment. I am thinking that the cameras are also cheap trade supplied versions. They do not even have a part number or manufacturers details on them.
Please let us know if you have had this resolved.
