no, fraid you missed the subtlety of the English language, JVB.
im pretty sure that what WTG said (please correct if wrong) was that they use 'only' the MH in Europe (ie not the caravan) whereas in the UK they use both (either).

and the other thing is where caravanners with large vans (and equally large awnings) fill their pitch completely, and then think it's perfectly ok to park their equally large towcar on another pitch....
in fact, i think one of Alanandjean's photos demonstrated this perfectly if i remember rightly
and i wouldnt call a 500L a runabout.....like the latest Mini, its a fat, bloated thing.....nothing like a 500.

Hi BB, It is perfectly OK to park your car on another pitch when the staff tell you you that that pitch is only used in July/August, you are there in May and yes its OK for you to park there-the pitch was also used by people parking to access the beach and, being next to the rubbish bins, was clearly not that desirable hence its limited use.
As another poster has said you do seem to be selective and despite referring to mine and my friends cars as large,massive and bloated you only refer to your 'larger' car and don't actually mention what it was.
The 'small ruanabout' is what our friends refer to their car as
But none of this matters-you do what suits you as we do.
My comments in this thread have been that the size of a MH may restrict the users in regard to the choice of sites that will suit them, in the same way that towing a van will have restrictions on the persons using them.

Better yet for me-a beautiful Spring morning in the high Moors of Yorkshire sat outside a Pod, beautifully camouflaged against the Trees it is nestled in, listening to the gentle buzz of the early morning foragers as they alight on the newly opened wild flowers. As I slowly turn 360 degrees I see no sign of the wheeled white boxes that jar in the natural environment nor hear the slamming of white box doors. Just Mother Nature at Her most beneficent. . . .Total joy👍🏻😊

I know you didn't WTG, my post didn't have you in mind at all! You, like us, have both a van and MH, and use them how it suits you best!

Having come from owning a caravan for 30+ years and now a mh for 5 years we know there is a significant difference.
When we first started with mh we towed a small car on an A frame, we then bought a 3 wheeled scooter and took that with us instead. We always have our ebikes with us for the day to day shopping and pleasure rides.
There has been times that had we not had the scooter we would have 'missed' out on some wonderful sights.
We now only tour abroad with the mh and ebikes and accept that there will be places we can't get to, yes we admit that at times having another mode of transport is useful and should we really want to go somewhere that we cannot get to by any other means we will 'rent' a car.
In the UK when required we take the car on an A frame so never have a problem.

Never had you down as being such a sensitive soul, BB, - so easily "peeved" by a few comments you don't like the sound of! (You're coming a teeny bit close tp moderation there - though I'm sure that was the furthest thing from your mind!
)But hang on - don't you think caravanners might be just a tiny bit "peeved" by your constant snipes against them - note that 4th paragraph?
The thing is, surely we are all different and enjoy our hobby in our own way. I've never owned a MH and know as little about the practicalities of touring in one as, presumably you, never having owned a caravan, do about touring that way.
Don't take comments on the forum so seriously is my advice for what it's worth - MHs and caravans are just different ways of enjoying our shared hobby - (as different as chicken and cauliflower as I suspect YOBUTS!

,yours was good post though ,and what some fail to note when as us ,getting older (free tv licence and beyond)need something with space but easy to park ie Car/C/van when in the uk

You may well be right there, WTG. I was just having a gentle tease at BB's expense about "his snipes" at caravanners.
Like you, I don't understand why either "side" should want to have a go at the other. I've just had a few days at Cirencester, huge MH opposite and to my left, huge TA van to my right (I had to console myself with the thought that size isn't everything!
) The point being that we were all enjoying a few days away from home in our own way."Real life" is very different from forum life isn't it?

Just to be clear I have no issue with however anyone wishes to camp. My issue is with generalisations. Someone said that vanners don’t do POI travelling from to/from sites, wrong we sometimes do. Granted we don’t do city centres but we have parked at POI in the UK, France, Belgium, Germany etc.. in the uk if your going to a NT property with a caravan on tow, good idea to call ahead.
All I’m trying to impart is no two people necessarily tour in the same way.
PS there are Stelplatz in Germany that take caravans.

One of the best things about the LVs available to us is the massive choice. From tiny cvans to big family models; from little campervans to RVs. The variety is phenomenal which means there’s something to suit all of us and we can swap as our needs change as they surely do throughout life. Adapting means we can carry on enjoying our hobby for years longer. Choice and change is to be celebrated.

Excellent post, we've been along that continuum line. Started in tents, then stepped 'back and forth' along the way in trailer tents, caravans, a de-mountable, camper vans and motorhomes. In my view no one way was superior to another, just better suited to our needs at any one time. The next step? Who knows, we will hopefully when needs change and hopefully we'll continue enjoying our pastime as always.

- we have a smallish motor home and it does depend where we are. we have bikes and a doggie trailer.
- Also public transport means we can have a beer with lunch and not worry about how we are getting home...
- we went through Monte Carlo last summer - Everyone said not to drive but take public transport but we are glad we didnt listen. Can you see us?
