Places to go in November
Hi im new at all this but can't wait to get started we are hiring a moho in November to see if we like it i'm sure we will has anyone any ideas where we can go down south that is open as i have heard that most sites close end of October thanks

Where are you starting from? How far do you want to drive? What do you want to do? "Down South" includes everywhere from a sightseeing visit to London to walking on isolated beaches in west Cornwall. Your call !

I'm off "down south" tomorrow myself. Northumberland - and it will be a four hour trip to get there !

Hello and welcome. We're generally a friendly helpful bunch.
To be able to give some tips, I'm sure you'll love it November may be cool and have long evenings but with everything you need including heating you'll have all you need 😃, tell us about who's going, kids, dogs etc and what you like doing and your starting point. What size of van are you hiring? This makes difference for parking get if you want trips out rather than leaving motorhome on site. There are websites for parking height restrictions.
Reason we'll have a better idea of what you're looking for. Why are you saying south? Maybe possible to have a couple of stops, or more if you want. There are sites close to towns where you can walk to attractions or places in the country for walking.
Do let us know who etc and reasons for where and I'm sure you'll get plenty of suggestions.

Ferry Meadows at Peterborough or Moreton in Marsh in the Cotswolds. I think these take non-members so you should save the cost of club membership though your nightly fees will be higher. I'd do both. Motorhoming is not about staying put on one site for a week or more - caravanning is a much better option for that. Make sure you go for a site with plenty of hard standing.
I'm going to Castleton, Derbyshire, next month.
Must admit I'm not a fan of hiring to see if you like it. Owning a motorhome all year round is not the same as hiring one for a week or two. However, if you dislike it, at least you'll avoid wasting money on buying one! Just don't come back seeing motorhoming through rose-tinted glasses.

What about Abbey Wood in London? There would be no shortage of things to do around there. The train station is a ten minute walk away and buses even nearer.

If you thought that most sites close at the end of October I am surprised that you chose to hire a motorhome in November.
As has been stated, there are a number of possibilities of places to stay in November. Asssuming your post is genuinely asking for suggestions you need to include more information as recommended by eurotraveller.
Sorry if my reply sounds negative but on all forums there are spurious posts and often other folks spend time replying to them and the person asking the questions doesn't make a further comment.
Many people are willing to reply to genuine requests (especially when information is not readily available elsewhere) but please realise that we all have personal likes and what someone thinks is a great place to visit may not be what another person would like.

He'll be fine! We haven't had any rain here for three weeks, and I only put a jumper on yesterday! And this is Yorkshire, not down South. I suspect Cheshire gets a lot of rain in Winter, a lot of Westerly counties do, but across Pennines it can be very different. Snow up on the hills I grant you, but not miserable and wet all the time! We have swum in sea, no wetsuit in October in Cornwall!

We are going away next week for a couple of nights and we are staying in Scotland. Lots of C&MC sites up here close on the 6th Nov but there are private/commercial/CL's open always something somewhere.
We like going away in the off season as the sites are quieter, towns/cities not so busy if you avoid weekends. Christmas shopping will be well underway so a great time to go to different towns ans explore those markets.
Enjoy it what ever you choose to do, I think hiring a motorhome is a good idea if you've never done anything like it before, too many folk have made costly mistakes.

As others have said, if you define 'down south' it will help, js. Carnon Downs AS near Truro is open. You can’t get much further south than that! Birchwood commercial site near Wareham, Dorset is open - plenty of HS there.
I'm sure you’re not expecting great weather in Nov so don’t be put off by the odd negative comment.
If nothing else, hiring a van will give you clues as to what layouts might or might not work for you as we're all different in our choices. Good luck with your experiment.

Are motor caravans less snug than trailer caravans in watery weather? Maybe its that big uninsulated window at the front.

If I was hiring a MH for the first time, I would be tempted to put together a tour of an area, perhaps moving around a bit rather than parking up at one location. That is what MHs are for really! Not sure of where OP lives, or what sort of interests OP has, but forests are often still very colourful, there are still lots of EH and NT and HHA properties open, many offering wonderful picnicking in the MH opportunities. Or perhaps wildlife/ bird spotting in warmth and comfort? Then there are all sorts of events such as Christmas Fairs, Craft Fairs, Food Festivals to visit.
All you need to enjoy Winter touring is a bit of pre planning, some imagination, check out weather reports if you are worried, but just go for it. We love Winter touring as much as lying around in the sunshine.

I thought you lived in Yorkshire for a while. Have to say, our Winters do seem to have changed a lot in last six or seven years. 2010 was worst Winter here for decades, six solid weeks of snow, ice and very low temperatures. But here in South Yorks we had little snow last Winter, and I actually had geraniums survive outside! (Plants are my weather gauge). Our Winters can be very dry now, all the rain drops on Lancashire, Lakes etc... before it reaches us. High areas, Dales and Moors still get snow of course. West side of Sheffield usually gets some as well, last remnants fall over Peak District. I would rather have snow than rain in Winter.

although we wont be back 'to the sun' until mid January, we still try to get away every other week....Chipping Norton on Thursday, Dulverton first week of December and Hillhead for New Year....so, plenty open here 'down south'...

There'll also be plenty of CLs open in November that you could use if there's no club sites open in the area that you want to visit. You don't have to use club sites you know, it's not compulsory!!

With1500 pubs now offering Motorhome stopovers in their car parks that's where I would be if I was planning a November tour in a rented Motorhome - preferably pubs with roaring fires, home cooking, good choice of local beers, and lively company - not sitting alone on any sort of darkened campsite.

What makes you think that?
There was no indication of this in the opening post. Indeed the person "had heard" that most sites would be closed.
A member would have all information regarding Club sites in the handbook so wouldn't need to rely on "hearsay" and presumably would be able to decide which areas/sites s/he would like to visit. This thread would then be unnecessary although the person may have asked for opinions about what s/he had identified as possibilities.
