We visited Budapest in September 2007 as part of our Dresden, Vienna, Budapest tour ( we ended up in Croatia, but that's another tale). We were delayed by a lorry load of saucepans on the motorway but eventually got to Camping Jumbo at dusk. The site was just being modernized back then but we got a warm welcome from the owners and their Hungarian sheepdog.

We were  one of the few 'vans there back then.

You need a three day stop and at least two day-visits. We took the open topped bus on day one to find out all about this twin city.

We passed through Hungary in August 2012.  Beware, it can get very hot in summer.  We came via Dresden, Krakow, Zakopane and the Tatra mountains and arrived at Haller Camping in Budapest foronly two nights.  We had read good reports of this site, but sadly when we arrived the regular manager was away and the stand-in had no idea how to limit the numbers arriving.  It was dangerously overcrowded, with as many as 10 caravans sharing a single extension lead from one of the two power points available..  Budapest was wonderful though, and like chasncath we did the open top bus tour, which when we went included a boat trip.  We had intended to spend a few nights there and a few on lake Balaton, but we changed course and drove on to Croatia ( Camping Slapic in Duga Resa which was superb).

Thanks Bakers2, I'm trying to find a simple way for posting full sized photos on threads. No luck so far!

We spent most of August in Hungary. Super Country, super people and relitavely cheap. We stayed at several independent smaller sites and then 10days at the Clubs recognised one at the side of Lake Balaton. The only problem that we encountered was German roadworks on A8 and A3. They are even worse than the UKs! English widely spoken along with German. Clean and good weather=excellent. Will definately be goung back-enjoy!

    Thanks everyone

We are planning to take 4 days to get there and spend 10 days at Tranquil Pines then maybe 6 days to get back taking a detour via The Netherlands to visit some people.

I'm quite looking forward to it already

When you first put up your first post (15/10, 17:38), when I went on to add my two pennyworth, your pics were there.  Next time I looked they had been replaced by a long website addresswith 9 lines of coding for each pic and your second post (16/10, 14:02) had full sized pictures. I do not see a third post, but the pics on the second post are still there for me.  I use Google Chrome.

screenshot of one of them below.

Thanks OAT for that info. I'm baffled as to why the photos vanished. I'm trying to find a way to use photos I have stored on google/picasa - the google system has changed. The visible photos are on flickr.
