Help for newbies
Hi all, we are a retired (fairly active) couple brand new to motorhoming.
So far we have only had a coup[e of weeks in the Norfolk Broads - Loved it.
We are looking to see in the New Year in Scotland. Edinburgh area ??
Any recommendations or tips welcome.

I see that the Club's Edinburgh's site is fully booked for the New Year weekend, and I'd guess that there's a waiting list too. Have a look on UK Sites website for other's in the area, and get ringing round.

It's also possible to go on a waiting list for the Edinburgh site, we nearly got there one year but had to cancel at the last moment. Here's the link for buying tickets for all the Hogmanay events, you'll also need transport to get there as the streets are closed.

Are there any hogmanany events / get togethers we should consider trying. ( southern scotland areas )

There are some nice Hogmanay gatherings in a lot of the small towns and villages, you might be lucky and find space on a site or CL near one of them. The rally idea is a good one, the centres often make their own New Year celebrations. Hope you find something.

Lin and Lang. You might like to try booking a CL close to Edinburgh. CL's are the 'hidden gems' of the Club network and are restricted to just 5 vans per site. Consequently they are much less busy (visitor-wise) than the larger club sites.
You can search for CL's (using criteria suitable to you) on the Club website under 'Book a Certificated Location' which is slightly mis-named as you can find CL's but will need to book direct with the site owner.
2 sites that accept motorhomes, have hardstanding, electric and are open all year near Edinburgh are;

LandL, EHU is the electric cable that enables you to "hook" up your Motorhome (M/H) to the electric supply bollard on most sites, so that you can run all the electric appliances and lights in your M/H on mains electric when on a pitch.

Hi to all, thanks for your replies and help.
We have booked in to The Woods Caravan Park near Alloa for Hogmanay stopping overnight at CL124 Yew Tree Farm on the way.
Is it just me
!! found it hard work finding places to book but guess it's just getting used to the ins and outs.Once again thanks, will report on how it went in the new year (If I've sobered up)

If you're talking about searching for CLs on this website, then it's not you, L&L. This new and 'improved' website leaves much to be desired and many of us admit defeat.

Hi Folks,Update on trip to Alloa for Hogmanay
One huge learning curve. BIG Lessons learnt
1.Allow a lot more time for travelling + leave home earlier than 10am on long runs.
2.Make a route plan and plan out alternative routings to be able to by-pass motorway hold-ups when needed, dont rely on diversions
3.Only use motorway stops to relieve dog and us. use our own vittals in wagon.
4.Make sure all final checks done 2 days BEFORE travelling
Moving on - Unforseen hold up so set off at noon 27th Dec M5/6 choked up a lot so when we were getting near our CL o/night stop (Yew Tree Farm, Risley) 18.30ish, well dark and raining. Then took over 40 mins to find site, went past it twice. Will use this site again tho, Lovely people.
Left at 10 next morning, arrived at Fishcross, Alloa at about 4.30pm (I know, said we were newbies, messed up a bit on navigation) Staying at The Woods Club site. Then took till 6pm finding it, sat nav kept sending us up a different road to a building yard near the back of it, good job the site had a late arrival plot. First 2 days shaped up nicely, it had snowed overnight then clear skies, our little Westie loved it. Not so good for walking into fishcross tho. Then the two storms hit rain,rain,rain. Disappointed to find that everything shut at 8pm New Years eve and no-one we spoke to knew of anywhere to go without a fair distance travel. Nice site, two excellent toilet, shower and laundry blocks, surprised that motorhome pitches were not that level. Good site for sightseeing base in summer.
Left site at noon 4th Jan planning to stop overnight at relatives in Rugby, going nicely then M6 closed for three junctions with diversion thro Kendal, travel info said it was 80min delay, they lied, it was over 4hours. Then closed again for M5 junction, was then too late for stopover, so ok use M42 to get on M5, guess what!! hold up and diversion on M42. Got home at 4am.
So quite a time, not the best example for Lin on her first visit to Scotland but we both have just put it down to experience.
Upsides - learn't lessons, wagon was brilliant we stayed cosy and the dog loved it.

So very pleased to hear you've survived (
) both your first trip north of the Border AND your first Hogmanay in that lovely Country. Just a reminder of the first & most important lesson you learned -- only trust a Sat Nav for the last few miles of an approach to a site if you have a navigator in the passenger seat who you can blame. I always do a paper - route for that part unless I KNOW where I'm agoin'.B
