Found offline... the "Caravan Code"

On reading the Club Site rules recently I noticed (para 2) that: The Caravan Code, The Countryside Code and Club site rules are things you've already agreed to follow as a member.

But on searching online for exactly what 'The Caravan Code' was, it was nowehere to be found on the Club Website, so I asked the Enquiries Team at the Club, but they simply sent me a link to the By-Laws and the Behaviour Code..  neither of which (as far as I could tell) were 'The Caravan Code'.

I also noted that in the Overseas Booking conditions:

30. The Caravan Code
Members are required to adhere to and abide by The Caravan Code as set out in the Caravan and Motorhome Club’s UK Sites Directory and Handbook. Parents have responsibility for their children at all times unless placed in the care of a duly authorised person. Particular care should be taken on sites with lakes, swimming pools and children’s playgrounds.

So I had rooted around & eventually found my Directory & Handbook, and there it was!  Hallelujah.. Page 658..   Very sensible advice it is..

It was probably on the 'old' Club website, but got lost in the move (I know how it feels, I still have boxes in my attic that haven't been opened in the 10 years since we moved house).

Seriously though, this 'Code' should be easily available to all members, and not just in the Handbook.. In an age when the Club relies on 'digital' it should be online and easily found.  Alongside the Towing Code, Code of Behaviour, the Countryside Code and the Seashore Code..

In fact, when a Club Document (published online) refers to another club document, a Link should be created so it's easily accessible.  Sometimes this happens, but in this case it was missed..

Thank goodness for paper!  Let's hope it gets rectified.

That is not the only thing missing since the web upgrade. I notice the ability to search for sites with economy pitches has gone although there is a list if you know what to look for. The App doesn't have the ability either

Good point well raised Cholsey Grange.

I'll be sure to forward your comments to the Digital Team for possible inclusion in the future. However we worked hard to strip the website of literally thousands of pages containing data that was either very infrequently or never actually visited.

Your Sites Directory and Handbook is your bible of Ts and Cs, codes of conduct and guidelines. Every Member receives one and therefore that is where we keep all such information.

If we scrap the SD&H the info will most certainly be on the website (but we'd also get lynched by the SD&H devotees in that instance!)

    Regards

    Helen

I sincerely hope that that is not going to be the case!! We, and thousands of other regular CL users, would be lost without the it. Promise me that you you were only jesting, and that there's no intention of stopping it's publication. However the way the CC's been going recently I wouldn't be at all surprised if it did disappear.

I'd second that Nellie.  Tried to do CL site search today for Essex using a couple of features we wanted such as 12 month opening, EHU. Pressed search. Sorry no matches! Took out requests and left out requests 43 to choose from some 12 month and ehu! If the club want to go all Internet 😲😲😲 they REALLY need to up their game and prove they can produce a decent website and search facility. Pink flying objects overhead.

I am sure it's not on the immediate agenda but I wouldn't rule it out completely. Who knows where technology will take us over the next ten years? The key is obviously having the right software with much more frequent updating but it's quite within the bounds of possibility that the Site Directory and Handbook will eventually be online only.

Its use would still be dependant on a decent wifi or phone signal. Not always readily available. A retrograde step if undertaken which would make me seriously review my membership.

I hardly ever use the handbook, the web site is much more up to date when it comes to looking for sites, in fact I wouldn't trust the handbook when it comes to finding a CL. The churn of these is far to high for entries to be reliable and I cannot be bothered with doing handbook updates when there is accurate information already on the web. The Club's focus should be about keeping data up to date and accessible on the web.

I would agree peedee. However, I would add that more effort also needs to be put into getting the app up to date and more useable. If the club ever want to do away with the handbook, a reliable off line alternative is essential.

To me the club sites book is an essential piece of kit when touring. When we are about 30 mins from the next site OH will check final approach info. Rarely use it otherwise.

I do wish they would improve the map for those with some visual problem though and also update it annually. That I do use when planning a tour.

Well the way the club's gone with computer technology so far there's no hope of an on-line site directory being up to date within my life time!! And as you can see from my avatar I'm only a young pup!.wink

    Hi all

Rest assured we will never get rid of the Sites Directory and Handbook and yes, I was only jesting (which I've learnt is probably not best practice on CT!)

We know how important it is to a huge proportion of our Members and you are right Easy T, it's an essential part of your kit to take with you everywhere.

    As you were!

Noted JVB66... I did hope the description of being lynched if we took it away may have implied a jest, but I'll know in future. wink

Helen, if the new supplement is only to come out on-line could you please ensure that all the new CLs, updates and closures are listed along with the new pricing structure for the club site, as there's sure to be a price increase for them.
