Don Shepherd RIP
Glamorgan's county cricket stalwart Don Shepherd has died at the age of 90. He came from an era when sportsmen were truly just that - men of sport and not the highly paid celebrities of nowadays. He was the highest first class wicket taker never to be capped by England. He was also a very modest man and always approachable by fans. I remember bunking off school when the team who won the county championship in 1969 played a warm up match against Wiltshire at Chippenham. At the time the county's other great bowler Jeff Jones was injured and I remember to this day talking to Don about Jeff and how his injury was faring - what a thrill for a 16 year old schoolboy and how typical of the man that he would actually take the time to chat. Worth remembering in this modern era of "sport as business".
Don't Shepherd RIP.
