Petrol MPG

Out of pure curiosity, being about to start 2018 towing with a 2 litre petrol tug, I'm interested to know what mpg I might expect. Last time I towed with a 2 litre petrol was a RAV4 in 2004, with about 1100kg on the back, getting 25.2mpg over just over 1700 miles and 41 solo over around 900 miles. Those figures were according to the car computer, which, being a hire car, I didn't have the opportunity to check for accuracy. I'm assuming the towing figure is a little on the low side bearing in mind that a. it took us a while to convert our right feet from diesel to petrol and b. petrol engines have much improved over the last 13 years!
