Croatia - site recommendations

We are planning our first trip to Croatia with our caravan in 5 weeks time. I have been reading various threads on Croatia and also some very helpful blogs on here but would welcome personal recommendations for sites in Istria, ideally close to a beach. We will have a kayak with us and we also like to snorkel. Is it necessary to book and is it possible to specify a particular pitch close to the sea ? The trip will not be as long as we would have liked unfortunately as we are both still working.

AD thanks for taking the trouble to post and for the info re possible routes and night halts. It's really helpful. We are hoping to manage it with three stopovers and 4 days travelling. Just need to shortlist some sites around Porec and Rovinj and find one to suit. We are glad to hear the water will be warm and that it's clear. We have some water shoes which we must remember to pack.
Apparently I am being roped in to sharing the towing on this trip so will need to get some practice in over the next few weeks as I haven't done any for a few years. The farthest we have been I think was San Marino 20+ years ago when the children were younger and we can't remember where we stopped but think it was only two stopovers.

Really looking forward to going now 🙂

We have been going to Camping Polari at Rovinj for 9 years. Great site for your needs, you should be able to get a pitch by the sea, as you are going in September. Easy to canoe or cycle to town. I have seen people paddle board to the small harbour for the afternoon. Many islands to explore plus the Limski canal for a real days expedition. Good supermarket on site and if you are a caravaner there are three supermarkets very close.

Thanks DJG. I'll take a look at the site - it must be good for you to have gone there nine times ! Like the sound of the islands too.
