SOG for us. Had it on the last caravan for about 6 years, then on the current caravan for 18 months. Annual deep clean with decalsifier. Ceramic bowl Thetford Loo is self cleaning.

They are. It is. But they work. They're cheaper too. Most people seem to think.they work well including us.

You can use any cheap bio pods we use Lidl cos it's closest to us 😃

We will definitely be trying these in future.  We have long ago ditched the expensive messy liquid in favour of the less messy lighter weight more expensive sachets!

I will report back once established with this new regime.

We have tried fluids (various makes) and Bio tabs, we have come to the conclusion that we will stick with the fluid types. what we have found is the Bio tabs don't deal with the smell as effectively as the purpose made fluids do.

Totally agree and have tried the 'bio' pods at different ambient temperatures from hot Med to cool UK. Dissolving no problem, odour control not so good!

A splash of blue in the cassette has been enough for us most of the time, as it rarely has anything to break down. When it does,  I use as much blue as recommended. Not sure why GROGGY says using liquid is messy, and as for cost, a bottle of blue lasts that long I couldn't tell you how much I paid for the last one.

Have not used blue as a fluid since about 2001, sachets are much easier, lighter to carry too.  Now trying the bio liquid pods, seem to do OK  for us.

Where do you think it goes when you dispose of it at a campsite? Straight into the sewer system.

I have to say I am puzzled by the rave reviews over Aldi/lidl bio pods because we tried them while touring France and Germany in 2016  and earlier this year.  They were alright until the temperature headed into the high 20's but over c.25 degrees a nauseating smell emanated from the toilet.  We had the same problem with Elsan sachets but Thetford satchets eliminated odours whatever the temperature.

The use of highly scented Fabric conditioner from Aldi or Lidl in the flush water virtually illuminates the pong AlistairA spray with zoflora also helps.

We've been using the pods for awhile now and happy that the cassette is clean. Like you not happy at the odour, have tried fabric softener didn't  like the white scum that is left on the blade and mechanism, tried Zoff or a,  not bad but still not quite there. This trip we have bought a small bottle of Elsan double blue to try. Now at end of first week and no complaints about pong! We are using a Lidl pod plus a tiny dash of the blue and it's great, cassette clean as a whistle and no odour and that's  on 3 days use.

"Illuminates"? Just what we need - glow in the dark poo. Can't see it being that popular though.

The above is very useful to a new motorhomer!

For those recommending using bio tabs in the toilet, do you also use this in the flush instead of pink fluid, or just in the waste instead of blue? Any recommendations for substitutes for pink fluid to keep the toilet clean / unclogged?

    Thanks!

I stopped using anything in the flush tank because of black streak gunk but now have a spray bottle of diluted Zoflora which I use to spray around the bowl as it's really only to sanitise the bowl and it does smell nice.

I don't think it is fair to compare different chemicals (as liquid, bags, tablets, whatever) for breakdown and odour control unless the on-board toilet is used in a similar manner by all who contribute to the contents, and who are also all eating and drinking exacly the same.

Similarly, the odor would need to be assessed by individuals with very similar responses to these odours. And the casette would need to be shaken about by the same amount by driving a similar route - or sitting stationary. SOG seems to be the answer though - just move any odour outside.

Do you use them in both the cassette and the flush tank?  Do you dissolve the one for the flush in some water?  We couldn't just drop one into our flush water as it's almost impossible to get the top off, and the filler pipe is much too narrow.  I've suggested to OH that we try them after we had problems opening a blue bottle, leading to spillage everywhere!!

I use cheap fabric conditioner in the flush i.e. Lidls & Aldi.  I found that Thetford Pink left black bits in the flush water.

When its piddling down with rain it is nice to be able to empty and rinse the cassette and shove it back into the compartment without faffing about in the front locker for fluis etc. We keep a box of Lidl pods in the cupboard beneath the wash basin. Fliss will drop a pod in via the sliding flap ready for next usage.

When I was at the Coniston site in September I noticed there was a clean your cassette machine there, it even refills it with water and 'blue'.

Cost £2. I wondered how well used it was?

I'd forgotten about this thread but have just re read it. No definitive answer about whether it is ok to empty the cassette into a normal household toilet/sewage system if you are using formaldehyde free additives. Any CL owners or wardens out there with knowledge of where the chemical toilet disposal point waste goes? Does it go into the mains sewage system or a dedicated tank for disposal by other means?

If the waste goes into a septic tank then your supposed to use the green chemical additives so it doesn't affect the chemicals that's put in there every time the tank is emptied.

I'm not surprised it doesn't  damage the functioning of a septic tank. The green fluid is absolutely useless. Bio pods are much more effective.
