Hi folks. Will be making a slow journey from Helensburgh to Shaftsbury, Dorset Sept/Oct and at all costs wish to avoid going anywhere near Bath. Have been advised to cut across from M5 towards Cirencester/Swindon and then on down via A419 to the A303. I'm fairly familiar with this route but only driving solo. Also looking for maybe 1 or 2 overnight stopping points Southbound on M6. Any suggestions will be gratefully considered. Regards to all, Lew & Irene Jack

We live near the Somerset/Dorset border. Your two best choices are to come down to junc 25 on the M5, head towards the A303 and take the Shaftesbuury turn on the A350. The alternative is the M4 via Chippenham then onto the same A350. Both good routes.

Thanks for your info brue - will get the map out tonight. Once I'm down onto or near the A303 I'll be on familiar territory.
