Aires/ Municipal
From Roscoff we are hoping to travel down to La Rochelle. We are in a Motorhome can anyone suggest aires along the way to break up the journey . We also fancy trying a Municipal site for a few days as well can anyone suggest sites in that area. Never used an aire before or a municiple site. We are due to leave the 26th august. To book a Municiple site is that straightforward ?
We have two small dogs as well thanks

I e-mailed a Municiple site yesterday through the ACSI website to book a pitch for 6 nights on our way back from Germany beginning of July, email back this morning confirming my booking.

About halfway between Roscoff and La Rochelle you might like to stay at La Roche Bernard in south Brittany. The municipal site, Camping le Patis, has its own Motorhome Aire at the entrance, so you can choose when you get there. It's on the river bank by the harbour, close to bars, cafes and shops. You won't need to book at the end of August - just arrive in good time and say hello.

Hi
I used to live in the Vendee and if you're travelling down the coast these resorts all have excellent aires and a lot cheaper then campsites.
St Jean De Monts e12
St Gilles Croix de Vie e6
Les Sables d'lonne e15
La Rochelle also has an excellent aire right in the centre of the Marina but you will need to check it is open because it closes believe it or not for July/August. These prices are August prices and will be a lot cheaper come September in fact St Gilles might be free.
Enjoy its a nice part of France

At the end of August, on some municipal sites, you may find you are the only people there.
Not many municipal sites are set up to take bookings - they are run on a shoestring, often with just a member of staff at the Mairie who turns up to collect the fees, and a local lady who cleans the loos. Occasionally they have a proper office, and a manager, but it really isn't necessary to book in advance.

I have a few municipal and ex-municipal now under management that we use. They are excellent value imo.
I like to know where I'm going so I e-mail early in the year and always have had a response but you probably don't need that fuss. Depends on what you want from a site I guess. Clean loos and space are 'musts', but some have swimming pools and are excellent for adults who don't want the kiddy element!!!
