Cycling in Holland
I know the cycle routes in Holland are brilliant, but in some ways the choices are a bit bewildering so can anyone help us to home in on some nice areas with good sites and cycling combined?
We are looking for quiet sites with cycling from the sites or within a short drive. We'd prefer countryside rather than the coast.
We will be visiting in September.
Thanks.

Time to go to Waterstones - or your public library if you still have one - for a general guide book about the Netherlands. Decide whether you want the sandy heaths and forests in Gelderland, or somewhere around Maastricht in the far south, or the old ports like Hoorn and Enkhuisen on the Markermeer, or, or, or....None of us can choose for you !
But whichever area you choose there will be cycling and there will be campsites of all shapes and sizes. ACSI will be the first port of call, but the smaller sites won't be on that list. Google for minicamping Nederland if you want to look at those.

I would say select the area you wish to visit and just make the assumption that there will be cycle paths nearby. The Dutch give as much priority to cycle ways as they do roads. Also a lot of the local, non main roads, usually have traffic calming which makes cycling more of a pleasure.

Holland has a wealth of cycle routes, all linked via so-called "Knooppunten" or junctions which are numbered. The Knooppunten website is also in English HERE
It's a very useful website where you can plan routes, as long or short as you like, you can download routes and there is also an app.
Just a word of warning: the area in Limburg is quite hilly in places, it's the only non-flat area in Holland!
Happy planning!

For quiet, small sites try the website www.vekabo.nl. These are mostly small, farm type sites. We stayed on a nice one last year near Arnhem with great cycling. There are loads to choose from when you've settled on your area.
