Tow ball condition

Hi, I'm new to this so hope I can explain my situation, Just bought new car and had new tow bar fitted which seems to be painted black. Do I need to rub down the ball to bare metal for the stabilizers to work? Appreciate your advice.

    A definate yes or the paint on the 50 mm ball will contaminate the stabilizer pads

    It can depend how old your van is and what sort of hitch head it has. All modern vans I believe have the hitch head stabiliser head so you must remove the paint on the ball part before attaching your van.
