A1 around Paris...

We are planning our first touring holiday to France, heading into the Loire Valley area.

Having looked at the suggested routes on google maps, the most obvious one is the A1 from Calais which goes around Paris. Now this maybe just my own thoughts, but staying away from major cities seems the more logical approach.

The other route from Calais is the A16 A28 A11 which stays well clear of Paris. Any advice on route planning would be great.

Thanks in advance.

Best advice you will probably receive here is give Paris a wide berth!  Suggest you look at Rouen  then whereever you are going on the Loire.

If you want to go that way....approach Paris on the A1 with your sat nav switched off (it will send you on to the inner ring road, the Peripherique) .

After you have passed the airport leave the A1 following signs for places hundreds of km. away such as Orleans and Bordeaux. You will be on the A3 and then the A86, the middle one of the three ring roads on that eastern side of Paris.
