Just had our first weekend on a Club Site for a very long time , the wardens do not make you feel welcome not on this site anyway. They asked us if we had been there before and we said no that was it. We asked if we could order papers to which they said we do not do papers.

We have been using club sites for 12 years, for the last 5 for in excess of 100 site nights a year, and have never come across what you describe.  Certainly the welcome will vary and some have been better than others, however we have never not been made to feel welcome. As to the papers, it depends very much on if the wardens can source a supplier. Personally in recent years I rarely bother, as long as I can get reasonable wifi, I download it when I want. As the reception generally does not open until 9:00 I always found it rather late for my paper. If others do the same perhaps there is insufficient demand.

I can only assume you were very unlucky.

You must have gone to the Diane Abbot school of Mathematics.  If they get say £7.50 per hour at 48 hours a week that is £360.  Multiply by 2 (husband and wife team) = £720 then multiply that by the number of weeks on site so say average of 40 weeks (some open all year and some not, some warders permanent some only seasonal) and that equals £28,800 less any tax, NI, pension etc.

But if you take a year as being 52 weeks then it is around £40000-its £37440- and if the pay is £8.12 an hour then that is £40k.

    Still wouldn't be tempted mind!

Neither, asst wardens or wardens work for 52 weeks of the year, in general most summer contracts are 38 weeks with various working hours specific to each sites needs.....

I strongly support  TW on this.  We moved away from using club sites about two years ago, but that was purely on price and the rigid pitching policy  that came into use about then.

In our experience CC site wardens were usually first class and very helpful. I had no complaint whatsoever in that respect.

We have had very little trouble with wardens and on the whole they are a very helpful and friendly bunch. Given the numbers employed you are bound to get the odd problem but I do not think they last long. The two that I know of certainly did not.

Ian very few wardens are on a 48hr week and assistants a lot less, wardens on one couple less busy site can be on 33hrs per week,  and it is only sites that have club supplied permanent accomodation that the staff do not have to buy their own gas electric is "free"  the pay for most is just above min wage

Its like some employees,  what is written on their  cv and said at interviews, can hide a multitude of "problems" that only really come to light , when said staff are put into a work environment that as any one who has had experience  of dealing with the public on a day to day basis will be only too aware is not the "rose tinted glasses"that seems when looking from the "other side" 😈

In my experience the vast majority of wardens we have encountered have been polite, friendly and helpful. I do agree that many commercial sites can be more helpful (such as siting and helping pitch your caravan) but on the whole the service offered by CC site staff is good. Some people want to be more social with their dealings with wardens and other visitors, whilst others want to be largely left alone (we lean towards the latter). I also cannot find anything in the membership details which says wardens are obliged to sell newspapers. It is useful where the wardens can offer that service but that can only be provided with the co-operation of a local newsagent who is willing to supply and deliver the papers. If that is a deal-breaker for visiting a site (really?!) then one needs to do ones research before booking.

I would also support the suggestion from others that you make these comments on the site review section.
